My best friend at your age had a very similar build and the same problem with adding size. That was over 10 years ago, but I can offer what we learned.
You may not eating enough. You could be eating 4000 calories a day, but if your goal is to grow, even add only LBM, you're not eating enough for *your* metabolism.
If something doesn't start to work for you after 6-8 weeks, you have to switch it up, but don't get frustrated. It took me 10 years to figure out what *my* optimal routines were.
High rep routines do not add mass for me. I keep my sets to 10 reps or less. I do 4 sets of each exercise. If I get 10 on my fourth set, I go up in weight and do a 5th set, but that's rare.
A couple years ago I tried something a little unconventional and started doing back + shoulders on the same day. I tried to do opposing movements for every exercise. For example, I'd start with pullups, then do shoulder presses, then rows, then lateral raises, etc. I'd alternate pushing then pulling movements. The results were nothing short of amazing. I got stronger faster than I ever had before.
I'm not saying any or all or this will work for you, but if you're not seeing what you want to see, try something a little different. I'm 30 now and I lift heavier than I did when I was 20. It's all about figuring out what works for you.
