Jeep Wranglers

The Dude

New member
Anybody own one or have in the past? I'm seriously considering purchasing one in the near future and was wondering if anyone had any opinions. I've always liked them myself. They've held a certain level of fascination with me since I was a kid.

I know this is heresy to some Jeep lovers, but I'm a lazy driver (and I like it that way dagnabbit! :D ) and I'd prefer to score one with automatic transmission. Opinions on these?

I love mine. Its my third Jeep. First one was a CJ, then a Cherokee, and now the Wrangler. I have a 4 inch rancho lift and 35" tires on mine. I drive convert all the time- live in sunny Socal- so its the perfect vehicle. If your gonna get one, get one with the straight 6 rather then the 4 banger. More expensive but def. worth it. Go for the stick too. If you want comfort and a car that drives real smooth and nice- get a car and not a Jeep.

Hey bro, I don't have one but I do have a 4 wheel drive, and if you are going to get one, take this into consideration. An automatic jeep will not be what you want it to be, half the reason 4 wheel drives first came in stick is because if you are stuck, you have a better chance of rocking yourself out (you can only do this with a stick), so if you plan on using it for what it's for then you almost have to get a manual transmission. Also having a 4 wheel drive truck, it's better to be able to really control the power of your truck when you are going through some really rough terrain.
You asked for the info. and well there it is.

auto wrangler= 3 speed = slow

stick wrangler=5 speed= faster..

get a stick one...i love them too but i have a 2001 explorer sport...it is awsome but i think my next car will probably be a used wrangler...peace

Yeah, I know what you guys mean. I looked at one today that looks like a pretty good deal. I haven't driven it yet, but if I want to take advantage of it I'll have to get over my desire to drive lazy.

Consumer reports rates Wranglers as one of the most unreliable vehicles you can buy.

I bought a Cherokee Sport and kept it for only a year. It was great in the winter, but I missed the handling and acceleration of a sports car. (Had an Acura Integra before that). When I can afford it, I'm planning to get a BMW 330 with the slick navigation system.

I'm on my third one and (knock on wood) have never had any serious problems I couldn't fix myself. My first was a CJ7, then a hardtop automatic Sierra, and now a YJ Wrangler. The automatic sucked, and I was pissed at my girlfriend at the time for talking me into buying that since she was too damn lazy to learn to drive a 5 speed. I went back to a manuel tranny on this one and I'll always have at least one Wrangler.

Although I do think the new TJs are pussified with the way they made the dash look like a car. I like the flat oldstyle dash better.

none of that new flimsy metal body new stuff for me- i have a 79 cj-5 golden eagle 350V8 and its great!!!!RADAR
