oh no by no means did i have great genetics. in highschool my friends laughed at me cause my chest was indented..lol. so i worked real hard on it and concentrated mostly on strength for powerlifting for 3 years. then for the past 3-4 i concentrate more on form, getting blood into the muscle, and shape. i diffenetly think it is a good idea to drop the weight a little and concentrate on the peak contraction. it has worked very well for me over the past few years. also dont go crazy on dumbell weight. go real deep with them..dont worry about the weight so much. and i get real intense while training. i do a set about every minute. i dont take much time between sets. makes it so you dont have to lift so heavy.
