Hey fellas I just hyper-extended my right knee today. I heard some thing sound like a rip inside. I don't have any insurance so i'm dreading going to doc. Just using ice. No swelling. has anyone ever had knee surgery or done this.

Had knee surgery 2.5 yrs ago. It is a long recovery process. If you dont have insurance you are fuct. My knee cost 31,500 all in. That is no lie.

Not my suggestion, but know others who have done it, but you could go to work and say it happened at work, and get it looked at under workers comp, you probably tore your acl, its the ligament that keeps the tibia from sliding too far forward on the femur (ie hyperextension)

May sound shadey, but if its what you have to do, do it. i fucked my knee up in a training exercise while in the Army. They took care of it ofcourse, but i have looked into the cost of such surgerys, torn acl, and i could run as high as 50,000.00. Whatever you do, definitely get it looked at by a physician.

aww sounds more like PCL to me.. but you will not know till you get an MRI
Just let it heal it will still be ok to walk on.. the problems would come over time.
Most jobs give you insurance. U dont have to say you did it at work. but you would have to say you did it after you had gottin the insurance.

I tore my ACL playing basketball.. I had insurance from my work I did not say i did it at work and my insurance paid most of it.

So my advise is to just wait till you get insurance just dont tell them you did it 6 months ago when you insurance was just activated yesterday.. :D good luck..

and the problem with tearing a ligament is that it puts more strain on other ligaments and tendons. and it will cause your knee joint to loosen a little. so dont do anthing stupid.. as long as there is not to much cartliage damage. you should be ok as far as getting back to 100% after surgery.. and if it is your ACL or what ever dont do the pellar tendon graph.. there are better ways now :D have fun

If it's not swollen it's fine. My knees sound like popcorn half the time and I don't have a torn anything. Get some babe to massage it for you in a hot tub. I bet it will clear right up.

sure you many not have a problem.. hope so for you.

but mine did not swell it was sore for about 2 days could not walk on it..
I though it was just sprained.

after a few days it felt fine only problem was i could not straighten it ou all the way
but i still did squats and wake boarded.. but after time is would hurt just randomly like a steped wrong or something and it would hurt really bad for like 2 min.

so i went to the ortho and did the MRI thing and wala.. sucked.

If it's not swollen your are fine. Just a mild hyperextension. If your tore a ligament or tendon there would definetly be a lot of swelling. I tore my ACl and it swole to the size of my thigh in about an hour. I had to have 200 cc of fliud drained off it twice. I mildly hyperextended my knee and no swelling just some discomfort for a week or two. Take it easy for a week or two and see how it is then.

Incorrect, it would not be the PCL as PCL is about 10 times stronger than the ACL and the mechanism of injury is exactly opposite of the biomechanics of the PCL, the PCL is damged when the tibia moves to far/fast posteriorly on the femur like in a hyper-flexion injury or a "knee into the dashboard injury" during a car accident, if anything major esp with a hyperextension mechanism of injury it would be the ACL not the PCL
But I do agree with the info on waiting and getting insurance as no major further damage would be done to the knee by waiting as long as he takes it easy
