When a failure to acknowledge happens, drill it into their fucken head. "YOU'RE WELCOME" and roll your eyes back into your head and speak in a deathmetal voice. Being serious for a moment. If I ever hold a door open for a female I do it because I want to do it, I don't care if i hear a thank you or not. I don't think people should open doors for the reciprocation or gratitude (especially when they didn't ask you to) though I accept its common courtesy to say thanks.

+1. I need want a thank you. I hold the door, elevator, etc for everybody -- chicks, doodes, kids, hermit crabs, etc. And if they say thanks, I say your welcome and smile if its a chick or a kid (those hermit crabs can go to hell).
