i wear straps because i want a big deadlift and big physique and the muscles that deal with grip are way smaller and weaker in general than the muscles that deal with the deadlifting motion.timtim said:cut out the straps all together. unless youre going for one or two max effort why wear straps? only short changing your grip.
if you want to improve your grip hit farmers walks without the straps.
word. i care about my strength, alot, cause i wanan be strong, AND big.swole said:i use straps starting at 3 plates
and fuggetaboutit if you think my grip/forearms are weak/notbig
if you need to use straps for a better BACK workout, so be it
who cares about grip, it's not like you should be working forearms because they need extra attention
then again i'm a bodybuilder, not a powerlifter
SublimeZM said:why short change your back and legs because your so worried about grip?
lololjerkbox said:because brah, saying that you never use straps, and making fun of anyone that does somehow makes you ultra cool.

i work my grip usually by taking the wide/thick bar and deadlifting it up and holding it in intervals of 15-30 seconds. kills traps too.
ronnie coleman uses straps, if that means anythingtimtim said:yea i know, i can get 450 without straps/chalk for 2 to 3 rep sets and 315 for 12 rep sets and i only weigh 190. my point is, youre exaggerating a weakness by using the straps. i think its a good idea you dont use them. im supporting your change and advocating you get rid of them altogether.
Gambino said:ronnie coleman uses straps, if that means anything
and sub have you ever tried the "hooks"?
metal hooks that grip the bar, they work badass for pullups and rows
Gambino said:ronnie coleman uses straps, if that means anything
double bodyweight dl is above average, esp for a non-juicertimtim said:yea but ronnie is doing alot more than i could ever do. if i ever got to that point i would probably think about them too. but i have a very average deadlift so i avoid using them anyway, makes everything else stronger.
cool, we deadlift about the same. except i dont care about my grip enough to deal with gay switch grip, and chalking up. i care about my deadlift, so i deadlift. i do care about grip some, though, which is why i do train it separately.timtim said:yea i know, i can get 450 without straps/chalk for 2 to 3 rep sets and 315 for 12 rep sets and i only weigh 190. my point is, youre exaggerating a weakness by using the straps. i think its a good idea you dont use them. im supporting your change and advocating you get rid of them altogether.
do you even deadlift? your legs are tiny brothe_clockwork said:if you are that much stronger than the rest of ure body during DL's that you hurt yourself, you should stop doing them

iv used the hex bar back in the day and i felt like it was too much of a squat exersise and less back/pulling when the grips are right by your body,Phaded said:supreme pwnage right there...
try the hex bar.. you could prob. dead like 500 lbs for 2 or 3 reps and straps aren't necessary..
i've never used straps for normal deads but my grip always fails.. i can't do a mixed grip because i broke my wrist when i was younger and it just feels awkward when i try mixed... therefore for normal barbell deads i only do an overhand grip and can prob. barely get 315 x 10 before grip fails..
anyhow i tried hexbar yesterday for firsttime ever and it straight up owns for deadlifting.. hammers quads hams back and traps..

javaguru said:I don't see a problem using straps for your heavy sets unless you plan on competing in powerlifting; I use straps for my heavy sets. I wonder how many people advocating to never use straps are pulling 500+ pounds for 5+ reps?
Phaded said:hmm i've never tried chalk.. however i saw this dude repping 365 x 5 on bench the other day using straps prob. the funniest thing i've ever seen..
I have tendonitis issues if I use an alternating grip so I deadlift overhand. I also don't let the plates touch the mat when I'm deadlifting for more than two reps, which is a lot more stressful on the grip.string_bean00 said:I could pull 500 for 5 on a good day without straps but I'm not really advocating not using them. I don't think people realize how strong their grip really is until they try out chalk (if gym allows it)
I usually go rawdawg for my deads and then use straps for all my following back exercises.
javaguru said:I deadlift and squat in the same workout, I never use a belt.
KyleMcd said:3 plates? I didn't even use that when I started my first 315x6. No offence but that's.
I think that has more to do with diet and your slowing metabolism.string_bean00 said:not using a belt has made my obliques overgrown I think, they are too big

Even if that is the case, I think that chronic belt wearing leads to a weakness in your torso which makes it more likely for you to be injured.
KyleMcd said:lol, we have the same coloured tights
mine too but its probably from the deadlifts more than squats imostring_bean00 said:not using a belt has made my obliques overgrown I think, they are too big

I concur...sublimezm needs to post some pics....it's an e-rule that if you talk shit about someone's physique you are obliged to post a pic.... just sayin'the_clockwork said:you talk a lot of shit yet never post pics
I will put everything I own on the line and say every measurement on my body is bigger than yours and I'm taller than you
iv posted my share of pics in the day, and of course your measurements will be bigger if your taller. and maybe you are bigger all around, but in terms of proportionality its kinda goofy to have arms the size of your legs.the_clockwork said:you talk a lot of shit yet never post pics

plus the rule is, you cant say you look better than someone, without posting pics. for example "wow you have small legs, mine are way bigger than yours".
but i never did that, i just made comments without saying i was any better
That's me at the end of a non clean bulk.....that's about as fat as I can get eating whatever I want.string_bean00 said:you obliques/waist do look a little thick and hurt your v-taper, just like mine, and i know that's not fat on there

That picture was from March 5, 2007 after my bulk....235-240 to a solid 250. that's as fat as I get bor.....first time I "bulked" in years.SublimeZM said:you just post the same years old pics over and over. for all i know your fat now.

You claiming they are average is YOUR opinion, plenty of guys would consider them hot and others would consider them ugly. When you make a comment like that the implication is you have higher standards.....which is why people want you to prove what your OPINION of attractive might be based on the hawt women you hang with....swole said:agreed
that's why i got pissed at people for telling me to post pics of the hot women i bang
i never said "hey lestat, i bang hotter girls than your average ones!!"
i just said his girls are average, it's just the truth, nothing more, nothing less
and i've seen pictures of sub, he's fuggin solid for natty
lol @ clockwork's arms being the size of his legs
