my office christmas party was last night and we all got our bonuses.
the way it works is everyone starts with the same amount (from physicists to the assemblers) and the managers are given an extra amount to divide up amoung their department whatever way they feel is appropriate.
So i'm friendly with 3 people in my department that have equivalent positions to me. after we got our checks, 2 of them (both technical writers) come over to me smiling. they're really happy about their check amount and told me they both got $1900. I open mine and it's $1155.
oh. ok, i think. i haven't quite been there a year. i think i'm only eligable for 75% of the bonus, which sucks because i've been there 11 months. But still, i'm happy and i'm thinking that my boss had no control over me getting less.
then i remembered that those two did a special project that involved 100 hours of overtime that they didn't get compensated for, and our boss told them they'd get extra in their christmas bonus. so that's cool.
later, i was on my way home and my other friend (and office mate) texted me and asked how much was my bonus. hers was $555. which means, that's probably what the minimum was, and my boss actually doubled mine.
its not the money that made me feel so good- it's the fact that I worked hard this year, and got recognized for it.
