I have no idea what I`m saying so don`t make fun of this post. My brother`s very good friend is a Programmer or Analyst, whatever that means. He has been out of work for 2 years and can`t find a job anywhere. He`s getting a little desperate I would guess and I was just wondering if it`s THAT bad out there for you guys?

He has had about 40 programmers working under him at one time. That MAY be the Analyst part. lol I have no idea. His last job was merging two huge company`s computer systems together or something like that. He ver internet savvy and I`m sure has exhausted a lot of avanues to get a job, but like I said, just wondering how it is out there.

He`s willing to relocate out of state. He`s worked in FL and Nj among other states I believe.. Maybe even other countries. I have`n spoken to him directly about this matter.

Any thought s?

It depends on the area he's in...the market's not very good right now, in general. Even willing to relocate, a lot of companies won't hire because they can find people locally and not have to jack with someone that's moving.

Has he tried independent contracting?

If he's having that much trouble then his problem is inflexibility. He's probably turned down jobs that he feels are beneath his skill level. At the bottom I went from making $79K to $35K. I'm about halfway recovered now. He needs to cowboy up, dumb down his resume and apply for lower level jobs like everybody else in IT has done over the last 3 years.

Is this person interested in working overseas? PM me.

and India.

come to LA. We put out $70k IT jobs, and we get maybe 12 resumes. I shit you NOT!!

don't believe all that media bullshit. Maybe it's bad in silicon valley or new york -- but it's not the same employment scenario everywhere else in the US.

This was my initial reaction when my brother was telling me. I don`t know but he`s had to move in with a relative because of no longer affording his housing bill. So I`m guessing or hoping he would have done that. lol Who knows?

Big4rt, I know he`s willing to relocate to other states, I`ll check about overseas. Thanks.

I guess it is that bad out there, but my friend just got a contract job for 12 months for 120k in NJ. He`s nowhere near qualified as this guy. This may be a situatin where you gotta know people on the inside to get hired.

Thanks for the replies.

Honestly, networking is always the best way to get a good job. It doesn't matter if it's IT or sales. The position I hold right now wasn't advertised, I was just johny on the spot.

Things are not that bad out there, unless this programmer lives in someplace like Montana.

Programming jobs are ALL over the place. If he's "holding out for management" or some shit, he's retarded.

He should be able to grab a contract job inside 4-5 days of looking.

I got laid off a month after 9/11, which sucked royally because it was the peak of the dotcom implosion. It still only (only?) took me 5 months to find a job.

2 years without work?

He don't want work.

Lame excuses galore...

Maybe, but I doubt it. I also agree with DT and Code but honestly, I don`t know the full story, I can just assume like everyone else. He`s my brothers very good friend and whenever I see him, we don`t really talk about that stuff. He`s had a Severance pay that just ran out or something. I`m not sure how that is involved.

I (personally) don`t want to knock the guy down before I know all the details/facts. I just wanted to get a little info.

If you ask me, I think one would take a lower paying job rather than living with a relative and not having a job. He`s definately not that type of guy, so I don`t want to paint a bad picture of him. I`ll get more info at some point to find out what his position is. IMO he`s not "holding out" for a management postion. Not after 2 years. That would be... not right. lol

Thanks again, I did learn something here.
