I told him that that's bullshit because I already searched the basement Christmas day while he was asleep and dropped the topic.

Sounds like bullshit to me too, mostly because I bet there's no way in hell you would ever have put it in the basement to begin with. I'm not real keen on her snooping around your own house to "help you find" lost items either. You need boundaries.
