a virus that can have you downloading without your knowledge? On Friday I got a notice that I was at 75% of my download copasity got home today after being away says we are at 100% I have nothing in the que to download. I checked my computer cleared for viruses. I don't think it is my land lady downloading that much. Maybe there is someone stealing or net connection?

huh - wait, you have like a certain set amount you can download? per what? month?

if that's correct, weird. nothing like that goes on in the states.

I'm guessing you or the landlady downloaded something off a service like LimeWire or a torrent

Once you download it, you share it with others automatically. Unless you disable it.

That can run up your download/upload limit ASAP.

How do I disable it I deleted everything from my bit torrent when I got the 75% notice.

does the torrent program start automatically when you power up the PC?

sometimes these shits can run in the background w/o you really noticing.

you should have something like limewire and AVG free edition antivirus on at all times.

If ya do, then I'd blame it on landlady.

Deleting it off the menu should take care of it. You can also limit the upload speed/connections in the option menu, not sure what program you're using for torrents....

oh also, don't share anything.

say you download shit to certain folder - torrent programs will find that and share it automatically. Don't let it :)

There's your problem. Bit torrents are teh devil!

dude close your torrent client, trust me you are constantly going to be uploading if it's running, even if it doesn't show you sending anything

I unistalled it wtf do I get so I am not a client we have bandwith limits here and I don't want to get screwed paying way to much.

How do I stop that?

here's what you do...

1. get in your avi outfit
2. get on cam with me so i can walk you through it
3. periodically pinch your nipples and moan mustang softly
4. i love you
5. serioulsy i do!

when you say you share the net with the land lady do you mean you both use 1 computer OR she has it set up like a network were you can access her account from your PC and she's the administrator for it? maybe she limited your hot ass!?

Assuming you're on Windows XP

Start>>Run>> type 'taskmgr' and hit enter.
Look at the Processes Tab
Click User Name at the top; anything that is LOCAL SERVICE, NETWORK SERVICE, or SYSTEM, you can most likely ignore its running under your account username, that should limit the Image Names you have to look through.
Other than explorer.exe its pretty safe to end most any user process.
Start ending processes until you see the bandwidth usage die. Once you know the process write it down.

Now go to Start>>Run>> type 'msconfig'
Go to the Startup tab
Find the process you just killed and remove the check from the box so that process doesn't start on startup
You can also note the Command section shows where the process is located, and the location shows the registry key where its located in HKey Local Machine. You should write those down too and I could help you more after that.

If you want to PM me pics after this works that would be acceptable.

We share she pays the bill but she hasn't limited me cause I pay her extra for an upgraded package. Besides that she has zero computer skills the woman is 71 impressive she can email.

She may not have protected your connection when she installed it, meaning all your neighbors or anyone near can access it and may be downloading stuff. Is your wireless access password protected? If not, get one on there ASAP.

Oh, and if its Rogers and you download a lot of stuff, upgrade your package.
