like now days for example when someone buys a tv cabinet do they want it to be preasembled? or dont they mind putting it together themself?
which way is the population headed?

Not dumber but lazier therefore less physical.

There's becoming a wider gap between the top and bottom tiers of learned/educational knowledge. This is one of the primary problems in the public school systems.

some people make more money per hour in their profession that when they have time off its more valuable than spending it assembling something, which isnt going to be of that much quality anyhow.
The time cost is easy to justify, if a Doctor makes 200$/hour and can pay a kid 20$/hour to mow his lawn then it makes more practical sense to work an extra hour rather than spend time on menial jobs.
I mean, why do people hire housecleaners and stuff, same difference really, b/c they can afford to

Hera, u r lovely!! And elite fry weren't u the one who asked about getting a tan when it is hot and cloudy?lol :rose:

Less physical without a doubt.

Dumber....proabbly not, but far less reason to justify their level of ignorance

i think its too complicated to generalise

i think you chose a poor example, because many people dont assemble furniture because it not only isnt in their interest to do so financially, but because these days if you assemble your own, your warranty etc goes to hell

imo, older people these days are far more physical, while young people less so because of things like playstations etc. across the board people are much fatter

computers make some poeple mentally lazy also - what do you think spellcheckers have done to people spelling? my sisters call me on my telephone asking me how to spell words sometimes!! :eek2:

why do you care anyway? so long as you arent one of them...

That's where you're wrong.

Why am I wrong?

At what point or what era in our human history would you attibute intelligence greater than what we have now? (I am referring to people in general not individuals.)

Studies from numerous countries suggest that IQ scores have been rising fast since at least the 1950s-enough to mean that someone with an IQ classed as average then could be labelled as having low intelligence today. Humans, it seems, are getting cleverer and cleverer with each passing generation.

The cause, or causes, of the IQ rise remain a mystery. The latest figures of intelligence have been researched and scanned in Denmark, a country noted for its detailed IQ records, and it might conclude that average IQs have not just peaked but are heading back down. Now we could just become alarmed by this however there are other studies counter arguing this point like for example better nutrition, better education, less children per family. James Flynn, professor of political science at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand noted that people have become better at solving abstract problems and have better reasoning power.

Society has a great impact on IQ; that cannot be discounted.

There's no big mystery behind IQ save what we make of it. We made it up -- we defined IQ -- so it is what we make of it. It's not some mysterious natural law who's implications are unbeknownst to mankind.

its a property of convenience, like entropy.

Entropy sucks, it pwns me every year.

:cow:

I agree, its a hard concept to fathom.

Entropy is not conserved...that gets me every time.

bloody engineers...

i make a living selling appliances and electronics in a small, local company and i think anyone who deals with the public has similar expierences - for example, sell someone one of the new hi-def tvs and a day later get a call "i can't get a picture only have a blue screen" - now this person has been given about an hours worth of instruction and has been provided an owners manual - so you know what is the first thing i say? "the answer to your question is on page 13 of your owners manual get it and i will help you through it" - and then there is silence - you know why? - they can't find their owners manual - they haven't read it and don't know where it is - so what's my point? the american public is basically stupid and lazy (go to disney world and look at the people around you - i guarantee the fat ones will be speaking english while the trim, fit people will speak any other language but english - except for the canadians) -

yes ppl are becoming bigger twats... everyone needs to get there ass kicked everys o often

good idea since it nocks u back down to reality

Not sure if we are getting dumber.. because we are finding ways to be less physical :)

But it is kinda funny i will work my ass off in the gym but take my car everywhere else :P
