I haven't been training for it. The last time I ran was maybe 1 or 2 ago and my best was 13-14miles. However, I'm in the gym 6 days a week and been biking during the summer. These workouts during the week are no fun I mean they are gruesome workouts.

A part of me thinks that I should train and do this the proper way. But, the other one (lol) I think that I can do it. Obviously I wont be competing for time but at least finish.

Give it to me straight :coffee:

My friend was talking to me about one today.
I know you're in NYC too, I wonder if she's running the same one.

I just ran a half marathon last week after a four month training cycle of 5 days a week training. Can you run for 2 hours straight ? If you cannot, I would not think you would have much fun doing it. Realistically it will take you between 2 and 2 and a half hours.
You can gut it out, but you will be in pain by halfway I think.
If you do it, try a run 10 walk 1 approach so you can at least finish.
The difference between strength training and running is that strength training workouts do not build your cardio endurance, which is a use it or lose it sort of thing.
Good luck if you do decide to go for it.

I am an avid bike rider (100+ miles per week) and a casual runner. Even riding 90-120 miles per week for a couple of months, I still had to work up to being able to run eight miles. What I do is, 1-2 days a week, I jog to the gym and do a short core/shoulder workout and jog back, up to four miles each way. When I puss out I run a route that's only like 2.4 miles each way for one or both of the legs.

Even doing this programme, I would not feel comfortable running 13 miles all at once. I would have to try at least 10, then 12 miles all at one go just to make sure.

That being said, I'm 36 and I really like to be prepared for stuff like this.

I did a half about a week ago without training properly. It's he'll on your legs but it can be done.

To do it properly, run 3 days a week, upping your distance about 10% a week up to 10 miles two weeks before the race. Then cut back your mileage so your legs are fresh for the race.

If you can run 10 miles, 13 is easy on race day.

You can run a half marathon easily. At which pace you run it at is a different matter though. I could run it doing a woeful 8-9min mile but then I don't train for it.
