Is Finasteride worth the risks?

I'm already taking Alfuzison for a 'tight' Prostate and they want to add Finasteride to help things along. But the possibility of long term ED and Gyno, etc just doesn't seem worth the risk. Plan B was a roto-rooter which I said NO to. I've had no acute attacks since taking the Alfuzison, so I think I'll leave well enough alone.

You have BPH, and currently your doctor has prescribed you an alpha1 blocker. It depends of what type of doctor you go to either academic or private practice or health care organization, but sometimes a knowledgeable doctor will add an anti-muscarinic like tolterodine or viagra which for a lot of older men works great. However, this is considering that BPH is your only problem. If you aren't happy get a second opinion preferably from academic physician as they are up to date on the literature. Long term untreated BPH has been shown to increase the risk of bladder cancer and renal tubular damage. So you definately want to get it taken care of.

Thanks, I had the pecker-cam done a few weeks ago and they did not mention any physical damage, just a bit of wrinkling in the bladder. The big issue is that I'm pissing a good amount, but still leaving over a cup in the bladder. The Alfuzison improved the flow somewaht, but did not clear up the retention issue. The doc is a Urologist attached to a hospital and seems to know his stuff.
