My insurance just switched to this. Is this a pain in the ass or are there any pros to it? I have always liked going right up to the pharmacy and picking it up. They always have to make changes!

I did that for a couple years. Worked pretty well. One upside is that you can get up to three months at a time, including controlled substances (C III, at least).

:cow:

Both of these above posts are true!

Many people are now switching to the mail order Rx. It is so much easier no need to worry about refilling monthly and all that bullshit and it is soooo damn much cheaper. You will be amazed the price you pay for a 90 day supply will shock you.

Which Pharm do you have in mind? I dont know which ones you have in your area but I know of a few up this way and I have never heard any complaints.

It sounds crazy but my insurance is medical mutual but scripts are now gonna go through Costco.Maybe im just worked up because its new to me.Thanks everyone for your input.

Costco. Dang. Never heard of it up here.
The best mail order we have up here imo is Express Script.

express script is what I had along with med mutual but I didnt have to send off for anything.Costco is a huge membership club at wholesale prices. It just sounds crazy to me getting scripts from a place like this.

Lol, I know what costco is. Kinda like Sams club and BJs wholesale like we have here. I did not know costco did mail order I would think that would be more of a drop off/pick up type of status.
I wouldn't be worried about getting rx's from places like that. Many people use Sams club up here because again it is cheaper than the typical walgreens, riteaid, etc.

It is ok if you have a script for long term use but if you have a cold (or your child does) and you need it ASAP it is worthless. I just pay the extra money and get it locally.

I've used mail order for the past 5 years. I prefer it. No standing in line at the pharmacy, no driving to the pharmacy, etc. Although the drive would be a great reason to drive the new Bimmer. ;)

I was thinking about this the other day. WTF do people do if they need a script for antibiotics or something? Wait five days?

There has to be some kind of clause for immediate needs.

In that case your personal physician should know that you use mail order and ask if you prefer samples (if they are available) or if you want to take the Rx to a local pharmacy. Typically say it is a 14 day rx, the Dr will give you samples or write out a small Rx for a few days use for you to take to local pharm while then writing the rest out for mail order.

It is also not always a 5 day wait for Rx's to come in if you are doing mail order. It all depends. My step dad uses mail order for his warfarin, he gets his blood drawn on for instance monday and has his meds on a tuesday possibly wednesday. It all depends.

Mail order is only for long-term prescriptions (>30 days). If you're taking blood pressure, cholesterol, or other long-term prescriptions, then some insurers require you to use mail order. If it's an antibiotic or something that's <30 days, then any pharmacy will usually be covered.

i use it for my bp med, and xanax (90 day supply baby).
