Is America culturally arrogant?

qt, you canadians do say "aboot"............admit it. When I came here I thought that the people who pronounced like that were from Nova Scotia or some other Northern outpost of Canada. But no, that pronunciation is rampant. The only thing funnier than that is listening to a french canadian. All do respect to them, I've got nothing against them.........but for some reason I can't help but get the giggles every time I hear one of them going off on something. It's just such a damn funny dialect.

Milo I don't think the question was how culturally pervasive is America. As there is no question Amercan culture has touched the rest of the world perfect example of that is McDonalds pretty much every where and Coke those are two piece of American culture. I believe it is how arrogant it is meaning most Americans think a trip to McDonalds is superior to say an authentic sushi bar in Japan.

Its just as arrogant to assume that a country as wide and diverse as America.. with one of the largest populations on the planet is filled with people who all think exactly the same..

and when your culture touches the rest of the world the way our has.. you dont think that would instill a sense of pride.. one that may be perceived by those less "pervasive" as arrogant??

The rest of the world holds us to a standard far higher than EVERYONE else.. and then acts offended when we are proud of our acheivements??

amazing.

There is a diffrence between being proud and arrogant. Nothing wrong with proud but to think you superior or better somehow is a stretch.

Certainly American culture is pervasive around the world and certain elements in other countries resent our cultural influence and presence; I'm looking at you Al Queda.

However, the arrogance that we can go into the mid east and impose stability and democracy in a country like Iraq. The British Empire oversaw the area after WWI and got out after WWII. They left chaos in their wake and couldn't stabilize the region; At least they realized leaving dictatorships seemed to work for the region better than democracies.
