I picked up a set of Ironmaster dumbells a week ago. These are adjustable dumbells that go from 5-120lbs per dumbell. They are awesome. I was previously using spinlock dumbells and it got to the point that there were so many drawbacks to the spinlock dumbells that I all but dropped dumbell exercises from my workout.
I hated the spinlock dumbells because:
1. The weight was always coming loose. Not comming off but loose enought to spin which annoyed me.
2. Regardless of how much weight you had on the dumbell they were aways 14" or 16" wide (depending on which set I was using). This sucked for incline dumbell curls and shoulder presses.
3. I lift alone so you have to rest the dumbell on your thigh before jacking it up into starting position. This is almost impossible with the 1" thick bar protruding from the end of the dumbell.
Anyway, the Ironmaster dumbells rock. They are solid, don't rattle, are secure, have thick handles (1 1/4" thick compared to the 1" thick spinlock dumbells). They are only as wide as they need to be for the weight you select. They come with a free stand. They also take up very little room compared to the standard weight tree I needed for the 240lbs of standard plates that the spinlock dumbells needed.
I paid $710 (shipping included) for the whole deal which was actually two products (the standard dumbell kit goes up to 75lbs each and I got an add on kit to go up to 120lbs each.)
I also got a Legend Flat/INcline bench too. I was using a TDS flat/incline/decline bench but this bench is way to tall (24" in the flat position) to use with dumbells. I got the legend bench from www.alphafitness.com for $500. It's a gym quality bench that kicks ass.
Theres nothing like dropping a chuck of cash into your home gym to keep you motivated!
