After reading this, discuss what your personal opinion is reference Iran and Israel? I personally believe Israel will take out Irans nuclear reactor this year or next


TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran said on Monday Israel could not threaten it, a few days after a U.S. newspaper reported that Israel's air force had apparently rehearsed a potential bombing raid of Iran's nuclear facilities.

Iran and Israel have engaged in a sharp exchange of words this month over suspicions Tehran is looking to develop nuclear weapons, helping to push global oil prices higher.

"They do not have the capacity to threaten the Islamic Republic of Iran," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini told a news conference.

He was asked about a New York Times report on Friday that quoted U.S. officials as saying Israeli jets conducted a long-range Mediterranean exercise this month that appeared to be a practice for a mission against Iran.

"They (Israel) have a number of domestic crises and they want to extrapolate it to cover others. Sometimes they come up with these empty slogans," Hosseini said in comments translated by Iran's English-language Press TV satellite station.

Iran's defense minister on Sunday accused Israel of "psychological warfare", but said Tehran would give a "devastating" response to any attack.

On Friday, the U.N. nuclear watchdog chief, Mohamed ElBaradei, said a military strike on Iran would turn the Middle East into a fireball and prompt Tehran to launch a crash course to build nuclear weapons.

EU SANCTIONS

Western powers suspect Tehran is seeking to develop nuclear bombs and European Union president Slovenia said the 27-nation bloc was scheduled to agree a new round of sanctions against Iran on Monday over its refusal to stop uranium enrichment.

Israel, widely believed to have the Middle East's only atomic arsenal, has described Iran's nuclear program as a threat to its existence.

Earlier this month, Israeli Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz told an Israeli newspaper an attack on Iran looked "unavoidable" given the apparent failure of United Nations sanctions to deny Tehran technology with bomb-making potential.

Tehran, which does not recognize Israel and regularly predicts its demise, says its nuclear work is a peaceful drive to generate electricity.

Israel bombed an Iraqi reactor in 1981 and an Israeli air raid on Syria last September razed what the United States said was a nascent nuclear reactor built with North Korean help. Syria denied having any such facility.

But many analysts say Iran's nuclear sites are too numerous, distant and fortified for Israel to take on alone.

Iran has threatened to retaliate if it is attacked. Its Shahab-3 missile, with a range of 2,000 km (1,250 miles), is capable of hitting Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf, Iranian officials say.

I think Iran already has some nuclear capabilities. It really doesn't take that much to build a bomb. N. Korea and Pakistan have already leaked some of their technology. That would have greatly assisted them in getting nukes. Israel is small too. It wouldn't take much to wipe them out.

I do not know why the US is such a pussy when it comes to Israel. IMO the main reason we are over there is because of Israel, oil is the second reason.

Israel has the third largest stockpile of nukes in the world. They can easily handle their own.

What if Monkeys built a spaceship and emigrated to Mars? Because thats about as likely as Iran fielding a successful bombing campaign against Isreal. (actually the monkey-spaceship is a little more likely)

What concerns me is that the next war in the middleast will be nuclear , you can bet on that..... for instance: Iran fought with Iraq for over ten years with ground troops , tanks etc, however they wont this time, mark my words.
 
A war with Iran would be a mostly air war. Us forces are stretched to thin. The only thing we could do is pummel them with bombs. Or fire up the draft. Probably both will happen.

It's easy to make a bomb in theory, that's how I won my fifth grade science fair. Obtaining the 99%+ pure material is the problem.

Israel has had nukes since the late 1970's and kicked their neighbors asses consistently; I'm pretty sure Mossad has a handle on the Iranian nuclear program...they're much better than the CIA.

I read one article about a general who had backback nukes in the trunk of his car back when the ANC came to power. They were afraid of the ANC getting them.

Please...Israel would hit Iran, take out their nuke plants and be home having dinner before Iran knew what hit them. The only thing Iran would do is dance around in the street for the cameras, slappin' themselves on the top of the head.........and Russia won't do dick....

He does have evidence backing up the assertion, they bitch slapped Iraq in the early eighties with a similar operation that took out the French supplied reactor and ended their nuke program.

that was early 80's. this is middle of 2008 and iran. i put my money on iran leveling israel and then me throwing a party because i won't have to hear asswipe camel jockies blaming everything on israel because there will be no israel. in fact, it would be great if all the countries in the middle east ganged up on israel. then they can turn on each other and wipe each other out.

That's not entirely true. While they did destroy the reactor, they did not stop the Iraqi nuclear program. The UN inspections during the nineties found and dismantled centrifuges for enriching as well as a newer, larger centrifuge being built so they could enrich a large enough quantity for a weapon quicker.

They're still Iranians and they use human wave tactics in conventional warfare. :worried: The piss poor Iraqi army we've trained is 10X better than Iran in conventional operations.

Israel can respond with enough nukes to turn Iran into a glass parking lot.

How much weapons grade material did Iraq produce or even come close to producing? Was it worth the current war? The French reactor was their last best hope. Saddam tried that silly ass super gun program after his nuclear ambitions were dashed....:lmao:

And just fyi reactors are very poor for producing weapons grade materials in even partially sufficient quantities. The reactor was just the start, the centrifuges were his best hope.

Israel violated the un sanctions in 67 when they built the nuclear reactor .
they were not allowed the Un played the arabs for fools.
When the united arab league of nations showed proof that israel was building a reactor when they were not supposed to . The UAL built a damn to stop the water flow down the jordan river to keep them from cooling the reactor.
the Un said it was ok to stop Israels reactor. Israel started bombing and invading 5 countries all with in a few days the UN let israel do what ever it fucking wanted and supplied the aircraft to peform the strikes.
Im for equal rights , if one has nuclear weapons they should all have them,
If israel gives up its nuclear weapons then no one else should have them.

how quickly Israel forgets the arabs that helped defeat hitlers troops and push them back out of africa and the middle east.

2- Iran is not a walk in the park....though I am against Iran's politics (not against Persians as 75th is trying to convince himself) they are a tough opponent.

3- Iran is not one nation, it is a multitude of nations....were Israel to declare war on Iran, it will spring much controversy and opposition

4- Israel will not use any nukes....it doesnt have enough balls to do so....if it did, it will be nuked back.....terror will break lose, and everyone with nukes will arm...WWIII....only after it's over, there will be no war....it's a cold war with the nukes....no one will use them.....

Breeder reactors can produce plutonium under the guise of civilian power production. How much highly enriched nuclear material have we found in Iraq?

There was no evidence or suspicion by inspectors he had a nuclear program of any substance post Gulf War to January 2003.

go 900 miles east of Isreal and you cover the airstrikes they will do in Iran

Yes you are correct. Reactors can produce a very small amount of weapons grade material.

What part of dismantled in the 90's did you not understand?

Of course, I didn't google anything, I just read the book which Iraq's top nuclear scientist in charge of the enriching program wrote. Mahdi Obeidi, he hid all of the blueprints for the centrifuges as well as actual reactor parts in his backyard and later turned them over to the U.S.A.

What would he possibly know though?

With Iran being in such close proximity to Israel, I really don't think nukes would be used until Iran actually launches one of their own

I concur, Israel uses it as a threatening stick. Why do you think there haven't been major conflicts between Israel and its neighbors. :) Nukes are never really intended to be used by nation states, they're a political tool.
