Ipod questions

So my Ipod took a shit. It still works, but shuts down randomly. I am getting a new one under warranty.

How do I put my music that is on it, onto my computer so that I can add it to my new Ipod. I don't have it on here now, as I used a different computer to download.

I was told by the Apple store to check Versiontracker.com for the right software, but I am fuckin lost as to what I should be looking for.

Looking for a free program to download music off my Ipod and onto my PC so that I can download it again to my new Ipod.

I have used Sharepod in the past. I used it to get songs off of a buddies iPod onto my computer and vice versa. It was an easy program to use, but I have not used it in a few years.

I just find where they are stored on the shared drive and copy them to an external drive. I use the external drive as my backup and then if I want to give my library to someone I just take my external and copy them to there hard drive location. This won't work with purchased songs though.
