Inviting a cop into home???

Couple nights a go, I got victimized by some high tech phone abuse.

A computer called every 100 minutes or so and delivered extremely lenghty messages designed to mess with you. They had blank spaces and alternated between spanish and english. When you picked up the phone, it got disconnected. Started at 12:30 am and went to 9:00 am.

Clearly designed to disrupt sleep.

I called the police...I was pretty irritated.

They sent a bilingual lady out.

There was one thing that I found very interesting. She was extremely interested in looking at my possessions in a clinical manner. The phone calls were treated as "a mistake."

Think twice about letting a cop into your house. Thats the lesson I learned. She seemed more interested in finding something to bust me than in the high tech telephone abuse.

Dude, once you invite them in, they pretty much can do what they want. It's like the vampire thing. NEVER NEVER invite them in.

you would be suprised how many people get busted by leaving shit in plain sight, thats why she was looking around

Not really accurate. if a cop comes to your home for phone abuse they can't start looking in your medicine cabinet, your porn collection, or underneath your mattress.

They need a warrant regardless of whether you invited them in or not!

unless the illegal item is in plain sight, then no warrant is needed

Well, alls I remember is getting arrested the last time I did it lol, and a realative of mine who has been is a Seargent (sp?), and been a cop for like 22 years told me next time, tell them "Yes, as a matter of fact I would mind if you stepped in for a moment". Loooong story.

Maybe the laws are different in your neck of the woods, but thats how they roll in Detroit.

If you call the police about a robbery and you have a kilo of coke on the kitchen table then YES they will make an issue of it. :)

But if you are getting harrassing phone calls and a cop comes out to take your statement they can NOT search your home. PERIOD!

They can't even search your CAR without probable cause and consent!

Well, to make my long story short, they knocked on my door one night, and I let them 'step inside'. I walked out in handcuffs for nothing pertaining to anything they found at my residence, yet they took a mighty good look around.

There were two of them, and one of me....do you think they cared about a warrant?

Once inside, believe me...they have free reign, warrant or not. Unless you have whitnesses in the house that can back up your story that you did NOT want them to 'step inside'...it's all over but the cryin' after that.
