interview nerves.

stilleto

ELITE MENTOR
EF VIP
i have that interview tomorrow. First interview for a job in... well i think in around 17 years.

i'm nervous.

not because i'm afraid they won't like me... i'm sure they will (how's that for confidence?). I'm afraid i won't like THEM. or the job.

its stupid of me to be nervous too... if i don't like it, i won't take it. i don't need to.

so why am i nervous?

I have been at the same job for almost 15 years now and I couldn't even imagine. I wouldn't be worried about them liking me, it is just something we hadn't had to do in so long. I guess being under the spot light, being asked 20 questions and hoping you don't fall on your face and the disappointment factor of having them pick someone other than us! That for me would be the worst!
Good luck to you and just be yourself. :)

Are these the nerds who have not seen boobs other than their relatives?

Push up bra, nice skirt....you're in like Flynn

why r you nrevous? Cause you're human!
Nervs keep us on our toes. Keeps us in tune.....let your nerves work for you.
Being put in a situation where you're being judged in a sense, is hard on anyone.
Breath and smile is all I can say.......good luck.

NO WAY, NERVES=PSYCHOSIS!!!

thank you. i guess i'm nervous about being judged.
and about liking them. I hope i don't like them and hate the job. or the other way around.

Don't be nervous. go in the office, pull off your sock, throw Frankenfoot on the desk and start the interview.
Do this and they will be nervous. Probably a bit nauseous as well.

Good luck. Remember not to wash the foot.

hardest interview questions ever :

Why should we hire you?

What would you say are your weak areas?

I have 15 years of experience in xxx and I feel I'm completely qualified for this job. I enjoy working with people and xxx (product line) and i'm comfortable with public speaking.

Because if you don't your competition will. You don't want me working against you....

If you can't tell without asking then I have none.

LOL Nothing worse than bad hair and nothing better than shopping.... 'cept maybe a massage and facial.

I've been going through all sorts of baptisms by fire myself and I dont like it. My husband keeps putting me in the forefront so I "can learn". :( My gf keeps yelling at me - MAN THE FUCK UP! hehehehehheee

(Sounds better though when we are smoking cigars and drinking wine/martinis :))

Well if they do, you can bring your poop eating puppy to work. They let employees bring their animals to work with them. Oh and all vending machines are free.......gotta love Google!

i didn't see any dogs there, but maybe i'll just bring mine on my first day and be a trend setter.
and my cats too.

everyone that worked there was swedish, but not the pretty picture of swedish people that you think.
they give you prizes (cash) if you lose weight, and advocate wearing jeans or shorts and a tshirt to work.
:)

The first ones easy, cause thats how good I am. The second one I think I answer too honestly, and need to come up with a good lie.

Wow, that sounds like an awesome job. They got any locations in WA?

capeesh?

she only had to interview at one place to find it though.

I'd probably have to interview at 300 different places.

well... i hope this doesn't sound cocky, but i've always done well on interviews.

here's a few suggestions:
dress WELL. and classy.
be confident. you should KNOW you're a great candidate.
know the company. This employer was super impressed that i had read their website and knew what they make and for whom.
Write a great coverletter. The guy i interviewed with today said they were so impressed when they got my coverletter and resume, that they cancelled the ad they were ABOUT to run in the paper for this job.

i know i lucked out with this company though- they are different.

btw, they did ask what my best skill or asset was. I said i'm creative, which helps in a lot of things that I do, and all problem solving. and I said i enjoy working with people.

Then they asked what did i not like about my last job. i wanted to say "my boss", but i knew better. So i said, "the one day a year that the accountant showed up".

they laughed.

Being able to do well on interviews is important,
and, that was good advice,

but question:
do you rehearse what you are going to say before you go into job interviews? Because that is the one thing i completely will not do before a job interview.

yes.
there were a few points I wanted to get across- mostly how my last job makes me a good candidate for this company (similar fields), and I rehearsed what my strong and weak points are, so if they asked, i'd have something perfect to say.

they knew i was confident, and I smiled a lot, spoke clearly and asked intelligent questions, which they seemed to like ("who uses your equipment, physics labs?")

for whatever reason I just dont agree with rehearsing stuff cuz that seems fake, and that is probably going to hurt me a lot in job interviews, isnt it :(

i wasn't going to rehearse anything, since i wasn't that interested in getting this job, but then i decided i didn't want to just say "uhhhhhh... ummmm...", especially if i got there and decided i DID want the job.
I ended up not saying the things I rehearsed word for word, but it did help me to get my point across and say some of the key words i wanted to say.

mountain muscle said:
Did you threaten to shoot them if they didn't give you the job as I suggested?

no need. i think they were willing to give me any job i wanted.
and... when i said i really only wanted to work from 9am till 3pm... MAYBE 4, they said, "ok!"

Do employers wish for job candidates to rehearse their answers to interview questions?

i think they prefer them to have intelligent, well spoken answers that put them in the best light and don't make them appear lazy, angry, stupid, or ignorant, poorly spoken, brainless, or incompetant.

if you can give a great answer every time without practicing what you want to say- go ahead. its worked for you already, yes?

i didn't want to be in the middle of one answer and then say "OH!!! i forgot to tell you! i'm creative and work well with others." even though that didn't pertain to the question.

im sure i could do a better job if i rehearsed beforehand. I just disagree with the whole rehearsal idea. It reminds me of a guy rehearses his lines before going out on a date with a woman, it's pathetic.

That's how I've gotten jobs before!

I have had someone call me in for an interview and apologize that he really didn't have a position available for me but just wanted to meet me because of my mailing - 45 minutes later he made a position for me.

That's said - sometimes it's just really letting people know that you're not just another mindless lazy loser looking to pay their rent.

dangit, im going to have a problem convincing them of this, hahaha.

im not lazy though, but i would say the primary reason for my job is to pay for my needs, and many times i hardly care about what job i get as long as it pays ok.

except this ISn"T a date, so even if they know your answer is rehearsed... it shows you've prepared. This company said that I scored major points for
a. writing the marketing department and asking about a job opportunity out of the blue, then writing a well written, personalized coverletter.
b. being PREPARED for the interview. I had told them that i looked over their website, and they said that 50% of the people they interview haven't prepared like that and it makes them hesitant to hire.

Stilleto, It is probably a standard first interview. Now, they will ask you questions like:
1. Tell us a time you had to discipline a subordinate?
2. If you observed someone stealing how would you handle it?
3. What do you feel is your strongest quality?
4. Tells us what you feel your weakness is?
5. Tell us what your typical workday it like?

These are a few I use when interviewing GM s and Accountants.

Remember, take your time and answer each question completly

The proper answer to number 4:

If I had a weakness it would probably be that I work to much

The proper answer to number 5.

I am usually the first one to arrive in the mornings and generally the last to leave...

Good luck...

yeah, i guess i always thought people were more authentic when they didnt rehearse answers to questions, but it sounds like my little idealistic world gets smashed when it hits reality. I could keep living with my ideals, but that would probably mean not getting a job i want :(

they asked what i hated most about my last job. I knew not to bad mouth my boss, even though that's what I hated, so i said there really wasn't that much that i didn't like, but I guess i didn't like having to prepare for the accountant (this job has nothing to do with accounting). They all laughed and said they hate that too.

they asked what would I say my former coworkers would say about me. I said i knew what they would say because they say it all the time now. They'd say "we miss you, come back!"
then i said that they would also say i have a very even personality, even under pressure, that i'm pleasant and organized, and that i'm patient when it comes to explaining things (all true!)

and they asked what WOULDN"T I do for my employer if asked.
I said "i wouldn't knowingly do anything illegal."
they were happy with that.

oh, and yes, they asked what my weekest quality is. I said "I'm a slight perfectionist."
which... given the department i'd be in, they liked a lot.
