They're illegal in the UK. Simple as.

I'd shrug them off. It's just words online & indicative of how actually stupid the person is to leave them self open to a pre-meditated assault charge.

The UK actually has a growing cybercrimes division & will take *your* complaint serious enough to follow up the threats & send a couple of the Old Bill around to the door of the person making the threats if they didn't mask their ISP with a proxy.

its actually just as serious as a personal face to face threat if you know the person and they know where you reside.

also you have proof bc its written and can be used as evidence. unlike if it is a verbal threat then its just your word against thiers. also you can not record a person without them knowing it i dont think to use the threat as evidence. unless its on a voicemail i guess..

Casll your local police dept. They will make a report and ask to see the "threat" their forensic people will get the ip address and find the person making the threat. They simply go to their house and arrest them. Works pretty well.

Law enforcement was a bit behind the technology but are catching up. They take these types of threats as seriously as the verbal threats made "in the heat of the moment". If you have it in writing it makes it that much easier for law enforcement to deal with their abusive asses.

The British equivalent of FBI and your local police department. Start with local police first then go to British Secret Service.

NO ONE has "the right" to threaten anyone else electronically. It's not humerous or entertaining. A terroristic threat, is a terroristic threat, is a terroristic threat.

EVERYONE has the right to feel safe.

Well the Old Grump and I did in fact go to the local police AND the FBI over a cyber-crime. It was pirating of two websites that we owned. I know that these are not the same crimes but they were cyber crimes not of a violent nature. As soon as the other party was made aware that US Secret Service AND local PD were involved they *poof* gave up.

So I am thinking if serious threats of bodily harm are made via the internet the cops and feds would take it with MORE seriousness. Would stand to reason, no?
