Interesting developments in the NHS

1. GPs and doctors are going to have their competency tested and to ensure they are keeping up with current medical developments.

2. The NHS is giving out free gym memberships to obese people for three months. If they lose weight in this time, the membership is renewed, if not, they lose it.

3. Anti-biotics now have guidelines that they are not prescribed for colds, which is great as 99% of these are viral, and the only thing anti-biotics do in this case is develop resistant bacteria.

This is awesome, especially #3!!! I've been saying this since around 1996 when one of the first resistant staph strains popped up.

The issue is that a lot of patients pressure doctors to give them anti-biotics, and there are times the doctors obviously do this.

Now it is a policy of NICE - National Institute for Clinical Excellence

I think the compentency thing is great, it is pretty obvious when some GPs don't keep up to date.

There has to be continual professional development (CPD) in all medical careers, I know I have to provide evidence for this to keep my registration.

Great news for the NHS system.

Now we just need to stop people abusing the system for sex change operations and titty jobs.

And re-introduce the ward sister / matron to police nurses and maintain excellent standards of hygiene that the NHS system used to be renowned for the world over.

The NHS that is being referred to is in the UK.

Its funny... almost everyone can see the insanity of dumping exotic antibiotics on people w/o knowing if the infection is viral or not. But when that person has a mystery infection and the doctor wants to wait it out... your average joe will start screaming for a z-pack.
