Well, you should start off lower but if you go up to ten iu's PWO just make sure you have suffiecient carbs to cover it and you would be fine. Most of the Russian studies suggest ~ 5 i.u.'s postwork only. You can get by with around 6g of carbs per i.u. There is a fine line between taking in too much and not enough (carbs). If you exceed the carb to insulin ratio you have a likely chance of gaining fat, which is what you don't want. If you do go hypoglycemic you will know it, you ain't going to pass out and drop dead right then and there. You will feel dizzy lightheaded, sweating, shakes, and headaches usually associated with low sugar - if this happens just drink a coke and you will be fine. I have taken high doses of insulin and waited to see if I could induce hypoglycemia (don't recommend doing this) -doing research, and found that enough time for warning signs were given to consume fast acting carbs. Personally, I do not go above 10 i.u.'s because you will start to induce fat deposits. If you are using Humulin R than immediately after workout take ~5 i.u's consume fast acting carbs that are roughly 6grams per i.u., so in this case around 30g (this all depends on the person and wether you are insulin resistant or not - little experimentaton and knowing your body will get you to a happy medium). Eat a high protein shake, amino acids, a couple grams of creatine and then make sure you have easy access to carbs just in case you feel any symptoms associated with hypoglycemia. During this time DO NOT eat fatty foods or the fat will also be pulled into your cells, eat clean. Humulin R peaks at around the 2 hour point, so at this point eat another high protein shake or meal high in protein but not fat. Lastly, DO NOT inject if you plan on going to bed, you want to make sure that you have at least 4 hours for it to clear your system. If you take it too late you run the risk of hypoglycemia and you may not wake up - but at these low doses I really doubt it. Just make sure you do it during waking hours and give yourself at least 4 hours as mentioned. This stuff is not the "Grim Reaper" as many make it out to be. Heck, I personally know diabetics who take up to 45 i.u.'s at a time. Point being is that if you have sufficient sugar quantities in your blood stream you will be ok. Just don't get careless or foolish with amounts. Good results from the 5-10 i.u. area PWO only. Hope that helps.
