Partitioned my hard drive so I can dual boot 2005 XP Media Center and W7

It seems like a thing of beauty so far

anybody needing a burnt iso disc for install, let me know and I can send you one.

It's free for the next year

I would take a disc, what are the system miniums for that? I have one computer That I could play with but the hardware might not be up to speed enough.

I'm thinking about slapping it on a mini HTPC.

It's free for a year? Then what happens, it locks up and makes you pay $12,000 to access your computer again?

Sounds like something microsoft would try.

Cool man! I was thinking about upgrading my main comp to something similar...quad core with lots of ram an an uber 3d card. Kick ass gaming machine too.

Sounds cool! I have Vista 64 bit now.

so?? where's my iso brotha??

i'll pm a addy

dude just torrent the software, and get a key from microsoft. it would take a couple hours at most.

Win 7 FTW. I upgraded my business computer and laptop to it and havent looked back. Cant wait for office 2010 to come out.

yes for anyone wanting help I can guide you through the process

you need a to get a dvd+R recordable disc 16X speed/ 120 min/4.7 is gb
(you can get them anywhere)

Google microsoft windows 7 rc download
download the 32bit or 64 whichever you are currently running

then download

you'll get a product key that's valid till June 2010

you the google (easus partation cnet) manager if you have XP( vista has a partitioning tool built in) and download that

then google (imgburn cnet)

download that

now you have all the software you need

you don't need the partion manager if you want to wipe your current OS system (wouldn't recommend at first)

then set up your partition (18 gb min for W7) then when disc is burned put it in and choose (cstom install) that will ask you where
you want to install it. I named the partition drive F and put a name of w7

there are walk through videos on youtube that are helpful too

Seems like a pain, but if I can do it so can you

I'm running osx on my dell mini. This keyboard is cramped as fuck. Jnev would die a fiery death trying to type on this thing.

You don't like the Mini10? I thought it was a pretty good keyboard and easy to type with compared to the other netbooks out there.

sorta kinda. all of the letter keys are normal, but the arrows, punctuation etc are about 2/3 to 3/4th the size of normal keys, so sometimes i jumble shit up and it resembles needto's typing.

does it make smurf hawt?
that's all that matters:p

got ya. and this is only temporary correct? doesn't it expire in like june of next year?

yes

but what do you want (phat fvck OS) aka vista or 7?

I'll take 7

XP is not gonna get patches or updates once it hits the shelves in Oct
so xp is gonna go the way of Windows 98, dead

xp is stable. But it's missing tons of things. U can't even play dvds in it. You have to install 9 zillion updates, drivers, add-ons, patches, etc. to bring it up to date. And it's 32-bit.

Right now with Windows 7 - the chocie is clear, skip XP and go Win 7 (preferably 64-bit thou u gotta do a reinstall). I'm getting a ton of calls per week to do win 7 training in october to employees before rollouts.

Windows 7 is pretty good. It'll be hard for me to give up XP 64 though. It runs well on my quad core with 8gb of ram...and 10k RPM harddrives...eat that razorguns.

Office 2010 is fucken bloated as shit. Nearly a 2gb install for something that I havent really seen improve since 2003. Then again I'm biased - I dont like office 2007 either.

Windows 7 will be awesome once v-lite, n-lite or w-lite or whatever supports it. Trim out all the language packs, performance tweaks, pull out a lot of the drivers...should be under 1gb on a disc.

I make my own XP install discs for each time I install it - footprint is smaller and they're a lot faster.

Problem with office is --- no one's come out with any half decent alternative. Just openoffice and stuff Mac has. 99% of businesses run word, excel, etc. Maybe if Google or Adobe finaly come out with a kick ass office suite that give Office a run for their money - perhaps. But for the next many years, Office will continue it's monopoly in offices around the world. Fine by me, I've made a killing past few years training cubical office warriors on word.
