I know how ya feel, Ive been feeling like that latley..... Fuck'em just like you said. Let them be jealous, they will eventually soak it up.

I don't even really talk to people about it anymore, unless they're serious athletes too.

Yep.

Don't explain yourself. Your friends don't need it and your enemies won't believe it.

I've gotten some shit from my family before...but my good friends have always supported me....even though I carry a bag full of tuna, bread, and mrp's every time we go out.

The bigger and stronger I get, the more they "challenge" me with things.

"I used to 'lift' (Insert obscene weight here)lbs when I was in school....But I don't work out anymore".
"I knew this guy once, (Insert ridiculous story of outrageous weight here) but he doesn't work anymore."

...and it goes on, and on, and on........... I just smile and say "Wow! That's neato!".

lol

Or they'll ask you what you bench, and then they'll say they know this guy who benches more than you.

*LOL*

Always!!

I also like the question, "How much can you lift?" I know they are thinking bench press, so I tell them, "500lbs". (My deadlift.) It's funny to see their reaction.....:D

I dont talk to anybody but one friend who works out for his paramedic course in high school, anybody else who workouts I know goes out and blows it on the weekend by getting tanked all the time.

I do envy them sometimes with the freedom of going where they want when they want without having to worry about meals and other shit. but I know in the end I am happy living my solitary life of lifting, eating, and school. my girlfriend supports me 110% also which helps

i have had that exact conversation a thousand times...lol

just last week I was talking to a pretty big guy that played offensive line for a Div. 1 program, and he was telling me how him and some of the other guys all were squatting over 900 raw. I was like wow you should enter a powerlifting meet, you could set a world record....lol

T3C, you know its funny, people will make all kinds of sacrifices to: to eat shitty food, drink too much, take all kinds of drugs, have sex with anyone, have a nice car, have the newest whatever, but yet they try to tell you how you should live your life and what is worth sacrifice. Just remember that it is your life and feel blessed for having found a passion. Some people never do.

they r jealous bastards bro! when people see others do something they wish they could do or be someone they wanna be they get jealous and find ways to criticize to make themselves feel better about their crappy selves

lifting is my business and i dont talk about my business with anyone outside of my immediate family. a simple rule, and it keeps the jealous people at bay.

my friend asked me the other day what my bench was, i told him i forgot.

I think it's more jealousy toward your extreme dedication. When people see that you have something that important in your life, and that your dedicated enough to do the work it involves, it really makes them question themselves.

exactly...if anything proving them wrong is enough to satisfy...let them fire your ass up...i know it does me!! people doubted me in the past and now look at me....nobody does that shit anymore!! but you have a select few though..i just use it as motivation..you know..gas for the fire!! tb

haha Great post. Recently I had some guy come up to me, (ex-convict ,drug dealer gangster type) that I knew from a while back. He had just got out of prison. While he was there he told me some big dude loaded up 780lbs on the bar for bench press and did 20 reps! No exagerration on my part. I was like WTF. I go along with shit most of the time, so I just let it pass haha

I think we all hear it all the time man.It can get discouraging because you might think....I sacrafice things that they dont all the time, and hit every workout hard to achieve major goals, yet this guy is seeming to treat me like Im less of a person for all of this.I dont get it!
Like the other guys said, its just jealousy,or some may feel intimidated so they try to put you down to make themselves feel better.A guy at work does this crap to me all the time, and one day went too far..when I stood up,he quickly said"dude Im just joking with you.I know if you ever hit me you would probably kill me" Just stupid people man,and their will probably always be people like this, wanting to degrade all of our efforts.....let it fuel your workouts

I think it was Einsteain who said, rough paraphrase- Great spirits will always be be condemned by mediocre minds....

it is annoying on its best day, and infuriorating on its worst day. The biggest thing is that I don't ever ask anyone about what they can do versus what they are doing. But it seems I need to know that there is someone stronger than me, and they just have to tell me....

Fuel for the fire and more contempt for the average Smuck

I have very few friends who don't train seriously for strength.

B True

heres another twist. Has anyone ever been out with a friend and someone that hasnt seen you two in awhile say "wow you are looking big"..and your friend get upset/jealous. I have a friend that lifts probably 2 to 3 times every 2 weeks or so. He doesnt get anywhere but he thinks its doing something for him. A friend came back from college and hung out with us. He asked me if ive been hitting the weights hard cuz im looking big. My friend goes"dude shut up ..quite trying to be nice just to make him feel good"..then the guy said "no man hes looking good"

I just smiled and said thanks

When arrogent people ask what I bench, I will sometimes say "well, I once maxed out at 95lbs, but that was back in my NFL days.". It really fries their cirucuits and they usually shut the fuck up pretty quick.

You seem like a good bro and I would feel lucky to have you as a training partner/friend. I am surrounded by Un-hardcore people, so all my motivation has not choice but to come from within. And from the guys on this site.

So as long as you still got some good bros at your side, yelling in your ear to quit fucking around, you have more than most people.

Truly good friends will not put you down.

LMAO

That's pretty funny.

Every serious lifter has been inundated with this crap. I think we all just learn to let it slide.

"My (insert friend, cousin, father, brother, friends friend, etc, etc, etc, etc here) used to lift, and he was about your size, maybe 10-20lbs bigger"

Another classic gem from idiots out there. I ask, "wow! do you have a pic?!" One time my sisters bf pulled that with me. "My little cousin is 14 and catching up on you. 220lbs already, and he doesn't even lift weights." I see a pic months later, and it's from his pool party. 220lbs alright. Including the man titties, gut and triple chin.

That along with the "I know someone who lifts double that!" is always classic.

I find that your real friends will encourage you, even if they don't understand what it is that you are doing. If someone is bringing anything negative to your life, it is time to cut them loose.

Same here. Only I use my bestest Rev. Lovejoy voice and say "Aww....That's super!"

I'm glad my friends aren't so insecure. They give me compliments and support... even the ones that were bigger and stronger than me in the past. They just keep asking if I've benched that 315 yet...LOL

I just love getting those "You still lifting?" questions. Before I used to really take offense to that and be like "do I look like I stopped!?" But now I just say that I stopped like 5yrs ago (even though they saw me in the gym last week or something). Oh well...

A classic line I hear all the time at school is
"If I went to the gym everyday like he does I would look exactly like him"

Whenever someone asks me how long of been going to the gym for, or how much I bench press I just tell them that I dont goto the gym as I am too young and still waiting for my muscles to develop. The look in their eyes is gold.

That comment really pisses me off!! haha Gotten that before. Or
"Do you lift weights?" A few days ago, this guy I used to train with, had alot of negative shit to say to me. Telling me I used to look fuller, that I gained fat, and I dont train hard anymore. I wanted to flatline the fucker. Hes one of those guys who hooks you up one day and is a fucking prick the next...Tells me hes my friend and just being honest.. Friends like this I dont fucking need. Understand Exactly where your coming from T3c. I tried to remain positive, told him straight out Im at my strongest and thickest, but he had only negative to say. I look at it like this. No one kicks a dead dog. He must percieve a threat and act on his own insecurities to be that way. Regardless this still pisses me off
