Injection Accident: Please Read

Here's what happened . . . after injecting a friend's quad, the needle ever-so-slightly nicked my fingertip (I was putting the cap back on). Nothing was injected, obviously . . . but the needle DID pierce my skin (which I doused IMMEDIATELY with alcohol).

What kind of danger did I just put myself in?

you might as well have fucked your friend right in the ass.

jk bro

i think you'll be alright. i think the chance of getting aids from a prick (your friend is a prick right?) is slime, i mean slim.

Thanks for the replies. I wonder how often this happens to people . . .

Here's some info I just dug up that makes me feel a bit better.

AIDS - Accidents Involving Syringe Needles, Etc., Total 15,000 Cases Over Three Years

A research study by the Ministry of Health and Welfare's committee on AIDS surveillance has uncovered 15,119 accidents in which medical doctors and nurses have mistakenly stuck themselves with syringe needles and drip infusion needles used for AIDS and hepatitis patients at the main AIDS-treatment hospitals throughout the country during the three years between 1996 and 1998. This has resulted in 28 cases in which such health care professionals were infected with hepatitis C, making it clear that the actual status of accident prevention measures are not adequate even at those main AIDS-treatment hospitals that should be especially well aware of the dangers of infectious diseases.

There were 88 cases of accidental punctures by needles used for patients infected with HIV, 1,862 cases by needles used for patients who had contracted hepatitis B, and 7,708 cases by needles used for patients infected with hepatitis C. WHILE THERE WERE NO CASES IN WHICH THE HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS INVOLVED WERE INFECTED WITH HIV, 28 of those persons exposed were infected with hepatitis C.

First of all just ask you bro if he is healthy. Secondly, the worst thing you probably got was a little tesosterone poisoning.

Stop offering to inject persons with AIDS and you'll be fine.

:)

The risk for becoming infected with HIV with needle stick is 0.3 to0.5 %. The chance increases with larger bore needles and if the subject whom the needle was used on has a high viral load of HIV.

You should be cool, but a test would be a good idea... if just to give you a piece of mind....

That was the funniest thing I've read all day.

Does this guy have AIDS, or some type of contageous illness?? I didn't see you say that, but alot of people here are responding as if you did. Did I miss something??? If the guy is healthy, then you will be fine, of course. If he has some sort of transmitable disease, then you definitely have something to worry about!!! I don't care fuckall about any stats you might dig up to the contrary brother, because it is real cut & dry as far as I am concerned. You, by pricking yourself with a pin that was just inside your friend, transmitted some amount of bodily fluids from the tip of the needle, to the point where the needle then breeched your skin and(I'm assuming) drew your blood. This is a simple transmission of bodily fluids(again), and the way that most communicable diseases are spread. No different than getting the flu from kissing someone who was recently infected with it, or is a carrier. Again, if your buddy isn't sick, then you're fine. If he is, then get to the Doc right away! And have your lazyass friend inject himself from now on. The fuck is he, in a wheelchair? Blind? No reason for you having to do that for him in my opinion.

Thanks for replies, everyone. Even the smart ass ones. My friend is healthly . . . although I’m basing this off his physical appearance (for the past three years), not his bloodwork.

For those still reading this thread for informational purposes . . . as Warpath mentioned, the rate of infection from an HIV positive needle is about .3%. That’s pretty slim (about 3 in 1000), but nothing to fuck with. Be careful everyone. Geoffgarst’s suggestion to forgo recapping and use a Sharps container is an excellent one.

Yes. The chance of a person being infected is proportional to the number of virus particles that penetrate the cutaneous skin layer, and reach the blood stream.
It takes quite a few to infect a person, not just one or two. Nothing is that lethal.
