Infinity: Any "Math-Headz" here ?

Opened an old book last night. I've been out of school for many years...hehehe trying to get back into the groove of learning. planning a return to school. found foot notes regarding the concept of infinity.

Infinity is a remarkable concept , being so complex and huge that it is virtually impervious to the effects of standard math. Infinity also has the distinction of causing more trouble than any other number in the whole of existence (it's been a while since I touched base with the concept so bare with me. )

Here is the tricky part or where i am a little confused: Is any number divided by Zero = Infinity ? calculator dictates this as symbol (e)....So is a Calculator using Zero to define infinity. Whereas Infinity Multiplied by any number = Infinity and Infinity divided by any number = Infinity.

OR

the calculator responds with a "E" because it is an error. The concept of dividing a number by zero is "undefined" but it is not infinite per say.

OR

Exactly defined as error, because there is no comprehension or term it can use to define infinite, just as the human mind that created the gadget can not define, so automatically in other words it malfunctions having not the capacity.. *error*

Notice ALL numbers have to balance / compromise between (0) and (1) or (1) and (0) 01235678910 any-way you look at it, your starting with 0 and 1 and ending with 1 and 0; and by no mistake composes the Binary code, the language of computers switches going on and off (1) = On, (0) = Off as electrical impulses for those familiar..

Has anyone here Studied: chaos, fuzzy Logic, String theory, quantum theory analysis ? If so, can I ask if you are using any of this in your chosen field ?

What about any Statistical Analysis programs : SAS..etc

You cannot divide numbers by zero, it is mathematically incorrect.
You can just get close to divide through zero, then you get infinite as an answer.

The "E" stand for Error.

If you ask me, dividing by zero is EXACTLY the same concept as infinity. How many times do you have to add zeros in order to get whatever number you are dividing by zero? An infinite number of times. The difficult part to grasp though is dividing zero by itself. Would that be infinity, zero, or 1?

well any number divided by itself is 1, but dividing anything by zero is infinity, and any fraction with a zero in the numerator is zero, I guess you could just flip a coin.

In ordinary math that most people know, you cannot divide by zero. Also, 0 divided by 0 is undefined. If it were equal to anything, you can start showing contradictions in the real number system.

However, if you study real analysis and topology, you will see that you can "complete" the real number system by adjoining an element formally labelled as infinity. This corresponds to what we consider as positive and negative infinity. This completed real number system is in a certain technical sense equivalent to a circle. Imagine wrapping the infinitely long real number line to attach the "ends" so that you get a circle.

Even in this extended real number system, though, you can't have all the ordinary rules of algebra hold. There's this advanced theorem that states that the only number systems that exist that satisfy certain rules of algebra are the real numbers, complex numbers, and a couple of others. Even with the complex numbers, multiplication is not commutative, i.e., i * j = k, but j * i = - k which is not equal to k.

Anyway! Probably more than you wanted to know.
