Sure brown or yellow teeth are just nasty, but those teeth that look like they are fluorescent bright white... that just jump out at you, are a turnoff. They make people look fake IMO...

In many model pics you see these teeth that look as bright white as fresh powder snow in the mountain sun. It looks silly.

Teeth should be white, and the same kind of white all over, but not THAT white. more like a slightly broken white, like most people would use to paint a wall.

My fathers a dentist and says teeth colour, up to a point, is not really related to hygiene or health or habits but more of a genetic thing.

Teeth that are clean, straight, and not rotten, are by definition white enough for me I've seen people with these headlight-bright teeth that just looked like they were about to take out their false teeth. bleh.

i had six veneers put on my front teeth a couple years ago. i had braces when i was a kid but a few of my teeth had worn down as i got older and a couple were yellow.

this cost me a fortune to have done and let me tell you this is no easy or simple procedure. getting all these veneers done is a major thing and requires many, many hours in the dentist chair and walking around for a month with those horrible temporaries which can easily fall off if you eat the wrong thing.

i was adamant to my dentist that i did not want that ugly fake waytoowhite look and he was happy to oblige. he said that many patients come in and insist on the whitest veneers possible. that is why you see so many people with freaky looking teeth.

fake looking teeth are like bad plastic surgery. a talented dentist will make them look good and NATURAL. it is a whole thing shaping them, and matching them.

anyhow it is a whole thing matching the color. i am white but kind of olive skinned so the dentist takes that into account when ordering the color from the dental lab. he sent me to the lab where the people that work there take pics and match the teeth to your face, smile and skin tone. they actually add gold to the enamel and have a scale of colors from freaky white to kinda brown which they make the veneers.

i am quite happy with the results and most of all they are not all FAKE. i HATE that neon white look!

i have seen those extreme makeover shows where they do a whole set of veneers for every tooth and i could imagine how much time and discomfort it involves. i think they must edit that out so you go see your dentist!

yes. my dentist said bleaching and whitening, which is so popular these days, has given people whiter teeth than would otherwise occur naturally, even with good healthy white teeth.

another interesting fact: people with darker skin tones tend to have whiter teeth naturally. that may be why when you see a fair skinned person with too white teeth it looks all fake and phony.

Must be because you didn't grow up normally... I doubt people fed you well and instructed you on how to clean your teeth after meals and such. not your fault.

There is a lot people can do to fix bad teeth these days though. If you can afford it, look into it.
