Any ideas?

Looking for things like:

Basic expenses paid (food, travel, motel, registration, etc...)
Supplements to use, clothing to wear...etc...

Any ieas? Most small contests can be done for about $50 travel, $150 motel, $50 registration...

Any thoughts on how to sell myself to a sponsor?

Go LOCAL...

Get the local Health Food Store, or Gym or group to sponsor you... If you are employed, sometimes you can get your co to throw some dough at you too !...

Network with the local business owners... Approach is just as you would in finding a job.. Look for a co that needs the visibility and that YOU could make a REAL impact for and apporach them.. If they say no, which most will, ask for a referral of a name of a fellow business owner you know that should have a contact for..

GNC is now getting into the sponsorship business big time.

Not a flame bro, but what are these people getting for their money? I mean I can see sponsoring a guy with potential to turn pro and use in advertising, but then again on the local level, what benefits are you offering? Just curious, because it is well known that some sponsorships come with "requirements".
 
I have seen several amateurs who have sponsors...they do lots of advertising for the company. They will be carrying a stone, flipping a tire...etc...and say something about drinking "So and so's water" when they train.

As far as potential to be a pro...the five pros who were at the contest last Saturday all told me that I didn't need to be in the amateurs anymore...I was pro material and needed to be competing with them. Even the guy who beat me by two small points and outweighed me by 70lbs...told me that.

I remember skaters(skateboarders) would tape themselves in action. maybe this would be a feasible idea for you. have some clips of yourself training on a couple of tapes or mpegs clips on some cd to give out. kind of like a video business card/resume. just an idea.

I would have asked someone who was successful in getting some sponsors and use a similar method. Maybe create a resume of your contest results and stats and start mailing it out to supplement companies and equipment manufacturers. Next time your at a meet talk to some of the meet sponsors. BTW, if you happen to run across a potential sponsor who would like to give me a contract to ride my motorcycle all day and train feel free to contact me.

Oh I get it, like a pam and tommy lee tape. Sell it on the internet and use the proceeds for training and meets. Yeah, you could say it was stolen, wink,wink.
 
I would say that going local is a good idea. My Gold's gym sponsors the local bodybuilding contest as well as other organizations and events. They love the advertising, and compared to what they're paying for TV/radio spots, flyers, etc., it's really not that much. Plus, if you're a big, strong bastard, a lot of store and gym owners just kind of like the idea that they're associated with you, just so if you do well in a contest or they can say, "Yeah, I sponsor him.:D"
 
I just want to do my best to win the North America's Strongest Man this October. There are pictures of me all over the Internet from where I competed in contests, will be in magazines, interviews, etc... I want to be the best, but I need a sponsor who believes in me as much as I do...and as much as my other competitors do also.

All advice is appreciated.

Budweiser, Nike, Reebok, Sell yourself and don't be afraid to go after the big companys. Tell these companies that you will have a fake tatoo on both arms everytime you compete or have pics taken or camera time.
 
I know I did that shit many times for a club before. Even if we aren't talking about the same, companies will always look at you like a begger. Mostly, you need to get some basic info on your targets (customers, products, .....). Show them you they will get something for their investment. No one will sponsor just for fun or cause you're cute (well unless........ lol). The first one is the hardest. Then once you have it's easier to knock at someone's door.
 
Things are hopefully going the right direction. Talking with Bud Sports...but they are really not a company that really works well with my image really...

Working on a site too....

Just have to figure out how in the world I can build a web page...I am lost.

You will definately get a sponsor.

1. Make some trademark or something like that so people have to pay you and they cant exploit your image for $ without you getting a cut.

You need a nickname like a hollywood name. b fold is pretty good but you might want to ty something like the; the Kentucky Klydsdale or something like that.

DONT sign with Don King!! lol
 
Sounds kind of ironic, but go to hospitals. Try the sports medicine clinics at larger hospitals for sponsorship money - you might be surprised.
