In a society where crime is epidemic and prisons are overflowing, state executions serve a two-fold purpose. First - execution eliminates the cost on society of keeping a convict locked up, fed, supervised, and cared for (medically, etc). Second - execution eliminates the predator. In cases such as this - where there is a wealth of evidence and/or witnesses - execution meets out the same end that one human being willingly forced upon another.

AND before anyone starts crying a river over "who are we to judge" or "how can you not value life". To you I say - welcome to the USA - you can say what you want and so can I. But we all play according to the same rules - so be careful which ones you decide to break.

I'm glad you mentioned that.

The only other countries that have capital punishment in the world are nations such as Iraq, Iran and a (very) few African and Asian countries - along with female circumsision and a whole load of other horrible shit...

Now surely you can't compare the US with these places?

Saying that, having lived in Saudi Arabia for a while in the 80's I can tell you that the crime rate is virtually non existant compared to here (and no doubt the US).......

no he's alive for now...IN Texas a stay usually gives the inmate 30 days for apeals or a review by the Gov, Parol board, or the Pres.

Here in Ireland during our recent referendum on capital punishment the US judical system was help up as something of a joke.
Of course this thread will generate the usual blood thirsty gang howling for blood, but having just watched a short documentery on the case I can't believe the US can go ahead with this execution.
Btw the result of our referendum was an over whelming rejection of the death penalty.

1. No more Micks should be allowed to voice their opinions regarding our states' policies. (This means you "Bouncer.")

2. I'm pro-death penalty. That said, we treat those under 18 as not having reached the age of majority. Why? because they're immature. Hence, we should NOT hand down a death sentence to someone who was not mature at the time of the crime. I do think that a 25 year to life sentence is appropriate.

3. Be sure and make it to Denver for the muscle man gay orgy on 8/24. Contact Big Buck and MP5 for details.

In Texas it's a Capital offense and has the possiblity of the death penalty if you kill someone while comitting a crime....In this case he was trying to car jack the man, and from what the news reported it was an execution style murder

I can't confirm that but believe that the fact he killed someone during a car jacking is the same as killing someone other then Self defense...
