I'm tired of hearing how movies/games/rap is the cause for all these problems with kids. In my case i'm just as pissed listening to the Beatles as I am Eminem. Rap always gets a bad rap (no pun intended) because of sheer ignorance of those over the age of 30, with very few exceptions. People said basically the same thing 40 years ago with Elvis. They don't realize that a person's tendency to get into trouble is predetermined by other natural factors, including genetics, deadbeat parents, geographic location of upbringing, etc. i find that rap relieves a lot of my aggression. Any kid who does something violent 'because of rap music' has a fragile mind into which basic moral values haven't been imstilled yet. And if they have, then that kid is a loser or has more serious problems than a rap song could ever give him. Blaming rap for violence in society is like blaming candy bars for your bad grades in school. Doesn't make sense does it? Take responsibility for yourselves, people, and if you're too young to, tell your parents to do their job.
Peace.

I just picked my daughter up from basketball practice. As I was waiting in the car some moron pulled up and parked beside me. Every other word in his music that you could hear half way down the block, was motherfucker. Noone should have to listen to that shit. He's lucky I was too tired not to grab his ghetto ass by the neck.

BS hansel. I don't understand how someone can honestly believe that something so popular that has such a violent background, and something that kids eat up like candy cause it's cool, does not make kids more prone to acting out the lifestyle. Maybe it takes living in bumfuck egypt like i do to witness the evolution first hand.

Hansel is right. Anyone who tries to blame society's problems on rap music, violent video games, or violent movies... is fucking ignorant. Period. :finger2:

Video games...Kids usually don't emulate video game characters for the simple fact that they're not included in pop culture and there's no oh so cool role model of sorts or lifestyle to emulate involved in it.

Movies, sometimes, because the characters can seem very real, and a lot of times people can over empathise with the character and put himself in their shoes, therefore that character is now "real" to them, the situations they face are now real, and they may end up emulating the character's actions and piecing together int heir head ow they feel the character would think and act in certain situations if they feel that strongly about them. A person may also feel compelled to believe that this character is really what they are destined to become if in fact they fel that the character shares certain views of theirs. For instance, the main character from the movie Falling Down. Some people may see that movie, feel the same way about things, and feel compelled to follow int he character's footsteps, like a lost puppy looking for guidance on where to go next witht heir lives. The character offers an easy choice.

Music however...Music is life. what you listen to dictates who you are for the most part anymore. Yes who you are also dictates what music you listen to, however the people who represent the former are the ones who we should be worried about; the ones who let music dictate who they are. if it dictates you to be a hippy, whatever, but if it dictates you to be a wannabe and live the ghetto lifestyle, then you have problems, because I'm 99.9% sure that they will eventually in some way shape or form get involved in all the riffraff that comes with the lifestyle. How many times have you heard the saying "hip hop/rap is a lifestlye"? Well guess what's involved with that lifestyle? People who listen to hippie music most of the time smoke pot and look a certain way. It's a lifestyle. The musci touches your soul and molds you. People who listen to goth are usually depressed and dress in black. And people who are into the rap/hip hop scene are usually into delinquent nonsense.

Like I said, he would be a person with a weak, undeveloped mind. I play my music plenty heavy enough, and there is no sound leaking out to the ears of others. You have to be an IDIOT to drive around with your windows down trying to impress people, because NO ONE will be impressed, especially sensible girls, and if you're playing it that loud, it's TOO loud, period.

Burning Inside, I grew up in a rural area, where a lot of people listened to rap. While some people were obnoxious about it, almost all were good kids, never getting into trouble. The parents knew how to raise their kids.
Now, take a kid growing up in south central L.A. listening to the same rap, and tell me that the music is what influenced his violent, juvenile-like behavior.
I firmly believe the factors I initially listed are what determines peoples' actions, in this case kids.

First. Rap sucks. Allways has allways will.

People who listen to hippie music most of the time smoke pot and look a certain way. It's a lifestyle. The musci touches your soul and molds you. People who listen to goth are usually depressed and dress in black.

And then there's me. Dressed in black listening to hippie music while depressed and toking a joint waiting for the Goth music to come on :D

I never said Rap Music = Child Delinquency

I said does it CONTRIBUTE to child delinquency.

I know, there's other factors such as bad parenting and drugs and stuff.

You are 100% correct, DT.

While there are some genetic factors that make us what we are, we are mainly products of our environment.

For instance, hate in the form of white supremacy. It is learned behavior. A person does not reach a cognitive level as a child with hate instilled in them, they are taught it.

you guys need to take a psychology class. yes this "gangster rap" music influences kids. the music represents a life style, a way of living, the style of clothes you wear. were do you think the baggy clothes came from? the basketball jerseys? the bling bling? all the new styles you'll see on BET videos first. but clothing is just part of it. hate, violence, and the rest goes along too. don't get me wrong, i'm sure this music only does this to the few who really let it get to them, but it does exist. and don't say i'm wrong, because I grew up seeing this happen everyday. one example would be everybody driving to the club, listening to this gang banger music, getting all hyped up because they are looking for a fight that night. listen to the the lyrics for god sake. why do you guys look to music to get a good pump and psyched for a workout? same shit! the music pumps you up. makes you feel like doing it, makes you feel like your a bad mofo. and when your listening to this shit everyday you become more and more like it. anyone who can't see this happen is just ignorant in my opinion.

video games are not the same. music is the biggest influence in life.

Well I for one am the same person I was before I ever started listening to rap. I don't let music change me. I listen to music to identify with a way I am feeling, and NEVER TAKE IT LITERALLY. Fucking idiots who do aren't fit for society.
About music being as 'large as life' as a reason why it influences people, well those people have it bass-ackwards. Music should not CREATE a person's lifestyle, it should COMPLIMENT it. I listen to so many types of music, if I let every one of them mold me instead of me molding myself from life experiences, well, I wouldn't even know how to start my day. I've been through a lot of shit, and I must admit, music helped me through it, but to let it overtake my own common sense would be absurd.

I'm just spittin my point, no beef with any of you.:)

rap promotes a ghetto trash life style....unlike games and movies, rap and oter music talk aboutreal life and usually reflect a rel situation with the artist, hence they are promoting all that bull shit and since kids idolie and emulate, they are prone toacting like ignorant fucking ghetto trash themelves. And I don't wanna hear "don't hate cz u can't relate" because no fucking college leval white kid can or should relate!

Television and Movies influence also. I've seen the studies. Realize this is not a blanket statement.

I love how everyone opposing rap is making stereotypical and blanket statements. Hey "Austin316" I'm a college "leval" (lol) white kid and I have listened to rap since I was 10 and I am perfectly fine... and not "ghetto trash." I do not associate myself with their lifestyle I just find some rap music entertaining (mostly older stuff.) Seriously though I can't believe some of the shit you guys post... it's like talking to a person who spews out nonsense without thinking beforehand. So Austin316 if I grew up my whole life listening to shit-kicking beer-guzzling country music would I become white trash? That's essentially what you are saying. You obviously watch wrestling... hence your name; have you ever performed a "stunner" on someone who became confrontational with you? Exactly.

Burning_Inside- I enjoy several different genres of music: alternative, metal, classic rock, RAP, techno/trance/house, classical, even a little pop! ... So according to your theory I should be (in the order of the genre's listed) an unshaven, psychotic, long-haired, pants sagging, X popping, highy civilized, homosexual or woman (one of the two) all of which I am not. Explain that.

<note: all of the stereotypes I listed are just that, stereotypes, and are not meant to offend anyone>
