In need of prayers...

Night Fly

Well, my grandfather (my mom's dad) had an arteriogram today. It showed 3 blocked arteries in his heart, one of which is blocked 99%. The doctor said that if it closed up (which it could do at any time) he would be gone. The problem: he has already had a bypass, so the good veins in his right leg are already in his heart. His left leg is bad, so this forced the medical team to do a test that shows what veins they can do. The arteriogram also showed that because his heart muscles were SO weak...he had suffered a heart attack within the past year and not even noticed it. He is scheduled for emergency open heart surgery tomorrow.

I know most of you don't know me from adam, but...I needed to talk to someone about this.

Even though I am in nursing school and see this type of stuff everyday, it seems like it's not supposed to happen to MY grandfather. I can handle it when it is someone else's family, but NOT mine. I keep telling myself that it is a routine surgery and that everything will be fine, but that does not comfort me.

I am so close to him and he is my only grandfather left. Another bad thing....I am in school and can't go home to be with my family for his surgery. To be honest...I am scared shitless....more scared than I ever thought I would be.

I don't know what to do...

My thoughts and prayers are with you, I just lost my Grandmother (my best friend) 9/10, the day after... the world fell apart. Anyway, good luck, I know it's tough.
Peace -K

Night Fly,

Your grandfather will be in my prayers.. You do sound terribly worried.. and thats completely understandable. My best friend just lost his father, and he moved back home quit his job and everything to take care of his mom. Be positive, and stay in touch with your family as much as you can from school, let them know even though you may not be able to be there, you are thinking about them. If you can, see if you can talk to your grandpa.. At least send him something, if even just a handwritten letter.. it will warm his heart to know you cared enough to send something personal.. who knows, that might be the boost he needs to fight through what he needs to, to come back to health.

My thoughts are with you, as well as your GP.

I'll be praying for you and your grandad and your family.

We went throught this with my grandfather about 12 years ago.
He went in for triple bypass and when they got in--they saw that he needed a valve replacement as well.

They did the bypass and then flew him to Houston a month later to do the valve--they gave him a 5% chance to live, but we were all praying, and he is still alive today.

Thanks to the Lord.---He answers prayers & He sees the big picture. He knows what is best and He will meet you were you are.

Stand in there Bro.

HM

Thanks everyone...I appreciate it, I really do.

I know I am probably overreacting about this, but I am scared we are going to lose him. He is 81 and is getting sicker and sicker each year.

I can't help but be worried...

SV---the letter is a great idea. I might do that.

Thanks again to those who replied.

Night Fly you know my prayers and thoughts are with you and your grandfather. Like Freak Show said: "Think positive thoughts."

My prayers are with you. My 82 year old father just went through this three weeks ago. My Sister and all three of her daughters are RNs. One of them had worked at the Debakie Center in Houston where my father had his surgery. It was esspecially hard on them. By the way, He is doing great. I am sure your GF will be doing well soon. God bless you.

Fly Girl...my 83 year young Grandmother had a tumor removed last year. And she is having some serious problems right now...taken to the Emergency Room last Tuesday...so I can relate.

Your grandfather, as well as yourself, will be ever present in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm with the guys here.
Plus my Grandmother also my only grandparent left is on the launch pad too. Although this is effecting my mother very bad and it's her I'm more worried about here.

All the best to your grandfather.

My grandad had the same surgery a couple of years ago and he´s still alive´n kickin´. I´m sure he´ll be alright :)

My prayers to you and you´re family.

I really, really appreciate everyone's prayers. I, too, prayed so much last night I was afraid He was getting tired of listening to me!!!

My mom called me this morning and said that his surgery was scheduled for 6:30 am central time....she was crying. She also told me that when she got my granddad all packed up last night to leave for the hospital, he was crying and hugging his dog. That just about tore me up.

Again, thanks for all the prayers...I will give an update as soon as I find out the results of the surgery.

You all have helped me a great deal. Thank you!

I know that it sounds hard sometimes. Trust in God. What must be done will be done, and for a reason.

This is so hard to take in and embrace sometimes. Whether it be love (Which I have just experienced.), death, or anything. The feeling of loss leaves us moments that sometimes we believe we're diminished to no more than an empty shell. Remember that even when you're feeling alone and scared, there is someone standing right beside you... waiting for you to raise your hands to the sky and unleash all that is withering inside of you, and surrender yourself to him.

Under God, "loss" is non-existant. He will wipe away the tears and offer solace unlike any other.

Let me assure you, that regardless of what happens, your grandfather will always be alive and with you. As is so often said, "Have faith." - Things will be OK when all is said and done.

Be strong. You are not alone. EVER.

You're in my prayers, sister.

Just an update.

My grandfather made it through his surgery with flying colors! The doctors said the outcome was way better than they expected. I cried I was so happy!

Thank you all for your prayers and support.

God Bless

Sorry to hear this nightfly. I will be thinking of you and your family tonight.

On a different note for all/ NIACIN!!!!!!!! It may not help a 99% blockage, but If you have healthy friends that you feel may be in danger of blockage. Try to get them to add some niacin to their diet. It dilates the vein/ateries and cleans out the "gunk" in the veins.

Nightfly it may help your grandfather, but if he is in poor health I do not know if I would try it. The doctor is going to say no for sure, because I will make him no money and they do not want it to get out that a simple thing like niacin is better than and angioplasy(sp?), a balloon inserted into the vein to stretch it open.

I'm just now finding this -i'm happy for ya.... hope he continues to improve!!! RADAR

Keep on praying, God is real. Humble yourself before him, He hears you.

I think you mentioned in an earlier thread that you had given up on religion or something like that, God and religion are not the same. Just remember no matter what happens God can give you peace and comfort.
