Not sure why it was closed but anyway, is it a lost cause? I'm going to call these carpet cleaners tomorrow and see what they say. This sucks...

I tried putting some dawn soap and hydrogen peroxide on it, it's still there.

professional cleaners should be able to help.

why was that other thread closed, i figured you closed it since you are a chairman. can't you open it?

Red wine is about the worst stain ever. I'd get professionals to do it.

yea, but can they take it completely out so I don't eat the deposit? I'll explain the situation on the phone and ask them upfront that if they're going to come by and it doesn't disappear, I ain't gonna drop $100 or whatever they cost

you gotta pay them if they do the work, they won' guarentee the results upfront.

why ar your quibbling over $100? what the fuck man, 4 bottles of wine probably set you back twice that, and you can't spent $100 to clean up your shitty mess?

Tell them there is a red wine/vomit stain on your carpet and ask them if they can get it out.

regarding Sawastea's closed thread:

Musclemom: my present cat is not much of a puker. He seems to have an iron stomach. In eleven years I've probably had to clean up only three or four puke stains from him, but one of those was a recently eaten rat. Oh god, the smell of that!

My previous cat, the late lamented Alice, was on the frequent puker plan though.

I expensed last night on the corporate card. FUCKING MESS!!!!!!!!!

argggg
well expense the mess too.

or just suck it up and eat the cleaning costs, especially if it will save your deposit.

I'm still in shock at you whining over a c-note. wtf man, i thought you were a baller, a mini mts?

id rent a steamer myself and clean it, it would be alot cheaper than hiring someone

Mine seem to go through phases ... like all girls they seem to do things en mass ... so I'll have no barf for months and then for two weeks it's like a minefield ...

Thank god no dead rodents around here, mine just torture them to death and leave them for me to find ...

They way I see it, they won't clean it up and I'll still have to loser my deposit.

$1000 < $1100
you won't lose the ENTIRE desposit, just what it takes to recarpet that room.

And again, you whinin over an extra $100?

you are paying $100 for a chance to save $1000 or whatever the cost would be. Would you rather pay $0 and have a 100% change of paying for the damages or pay $100 and have less then a 50% chance?

HAHA - I don't come over to the 'C'hat and 'C'arma board often, but I had to LOL at the red wine vomit stain. Kudos for posting something that made the rest of the board sick!

Bleach would probably do the trick. Just bleach the entire room so its all the same color. Wallgreens $10.00 worth. Problem solved.

i thought so too, apparently not, i told saweateage to unlock it. not sure if he tried or not.

Chairmen don't have the ability to unlock. The only thing we get is that they can't delete our threads...

I still don't have mod forum access

I told lestat that I was going to post it. It's hard to explain without giving you a visual ;)

oh, i like a good vomit pic as much as the next guy... but since sawastea started the thread, only admin can lock it. so i think digger wasn't thrilled... probably along the lines of some of the poo threads we've had.

They won't give you the key to the executive washroom untill you shell out the $900 bucks. Otherwise, what if you declined to continue the Chairman membership after your demo expires? They can't risk having unauthorized personnel rummaging through the mod forum.

they pruned it out pretty well prior to the chairman feature being implemented though. Not much in there now as far as history goies.

Spare us the pics. Nothing ELITE about those.

Sorry Digger.

Any wisdom/thoughts on how to clean this? I'm really leaning on hiring a service to do this.

As a foolish teenager I managed to ruin the carpet in my bedroom after almost getting alcohol poisoning. I tried cleaning it, but you could never get the smell out. I had to pay to recarpet my room. :(

However, I did learn to never get drunk again.

It's not going to come completely out. You can take everyones advice on try this and try that and go broke trying stuff.

Face it....it isn't coming out. It might look better once the cleaners come but it will still have some discoloration to it. Plus it has probably already dried out and that only complicates matters.

Where can you rent one?
I know that you can rent them in grocery stores here. Heck you could buy a new one for 100 bucks, and be able to reuse it.
We have a bissle one and if it gets up the nasty dog crap that this dog puts out, it will clean up red wine for sure
and then if u ever decide to shampoo your carpets, you can do it yourself, and its freakin easy, and not get c harged an arm and a leg. IMO its a good purchase in the long run
and noone invades your privacy in your home

Torch the place and claim on insurance.

Seriously, though. Next time you spill red wine or vinegar, absolutely smother it in salt. It helps.

$1000 < $1100

Bro, I thought you stacked more cheese than Dominos....that should be front pocket loot for you.

pay the $100. Ask on the phone first if they can get it out. Most can. The puke is nothing, the wine is the thing. Remember, carpets are made with man made material. Not cotton. It should come out with the right care.

Came out of the parents, it will yours. Pay the 100 and get it over with. If it dried in it, I can't promise you anything, just ask on the phone. They get it all the time

Seems like it should be dried by now.

Here is the breakdown:

Called the people this morning and they came by @ 1:30 and stayed until 3. They did all sorts of shit on it and there is still some bile residue. He sprayed it and then put some white powder on top and told me to vacuum it tomorrow. Hopefully that'll do it. If it doesn't, I'm probably going to grab some scissors and cut the fucking carpet (like a crew cut) to tske the discoloration off.

I know what I am talkng about...trust me. I have 26 years experience with it.

Any thoughts on this proceduce of getting it wet with a special substance and then putting powder on top to slow the drying so I can vacuum it tomorrow? Is it feasible to cut the threads in the carpet to lose the color?

Yeah if all else fails you could try that. Might want to wait a while before you do that because it could go away with time. Is it just an offwhite carpet? You could go to a store and get a small cut of it and replace it yourself.

Is the powder baking soda?

Sounds like he is using a powder to try and wick out the remaining residue of the vomit. It might lighten up a bit but it is prett much damaged permanently.

Your stomach has some of the strongest acids known to man in it. Mix it with food and liquid and throw up all over carpet and you have a mess.

Not much you can do about the discoloration of the carpet. It has damaged the fibers of the carpet therefore you will probably have a reddish or brownish tint in that area no matter how much you clean it.

I wouldn't go to the extreme of cutting anything out of the carpet. Even cutting out a piece of the damaged carpet and replacing it with a patch from the closet is risky. It is very hard to match up grain of the carpet plus the wear of the carpet.

From the pictures, it looks like it is stained pretty bad all the way to the backing so clipping the top part of the stain will do nothing more than probably accent the stain even more.

If you knew how to dye the carpet in that area the same color then you might get away with it but it is a very risky procedure that holds no promises.

Sounds like a product called Red Z. It is supposed to absorb bodily liquids without leaving a stain. It usually only works if the stain is fresh which in this case it had probably already dried.

No, don't give the carpet a haircut ... if you think a faded stain looks bad how do you think a faded stain in a sculpted out section of the rug will look  even if you COULD cut out the stain (doubtful, as Humorme pointed out) you'd STILL be looking at this chopped out section that would look just as bad if not worse than a faded barf stain.

1. Either get a large area rug to cover most of the room, just put it right over the existing wall to wall.

2. Get some throw rugs to scatter around the room (so it looks like a decorating decision, versus the one to cover the puke stain).

3. Just rearrange the bedroom entirely.

4. Recarpet.

But DON'T give the carpet a haircut ... if it's gonna drive you that nuts see the above suggestions ...

Well when he moves out he's gonna get fucked either way.

Bro, I honestly say you drink red wine till you puke for about the next month and throw up all over the room so it's the same color.

You renting or owning??? I'm sure you told us but I don't remember.

sawastea said:
Renting, if I was owning I wouldn't care...I guess when the time comes I'll figure something out.
Hmmm, well you could always tell the landlord your asthma has gotten worse and your allergy doctor recommended that the carpet be taken out and see how that flies ...

Seriously now, generally speaking ... if you held the lease for more than a year ... landlords pretty much figure a stain is part of normal wear and tear, really (I mean, nothing's written in stone) but if you've taken reasonable care with the rental, clearly weren't malicious and leave it clean with no holes in the walls or doors (particularly if when you move out you back this up with photos), no small claims judge busts you for a stain on the carpet. The unfortunate fact of life is, people get sick (hey, you had wine with dinner ... ooops) you called a professional (save the receipt somewhere safe by the way). Reasonable care is all that's ever expected of any tenant, not for the place to be pristine like it was never lived in.

i just saw a commercial on tv today for cleaning carpets..it says it takes out red wins stains.. to bad i cannot remember the name of it. it is two bottles of cleaners stuck together! dont know the name sorry! but atleast i though of you.

If it comes to this, you can always patch the carpet. If, after steam cleaning, some of the stain won't come out, accurately measure the smallest rectangle that will fully enclose the stain, and cut it out with a sharp carpet or linoleum knife. Then find a scrap of the same brand and color of carpet, cut it to the exact same dimensions, and plug the hole. If you do it right, you can't see the patch.
