importance of mirrors in the gym?

my friend is working on getting a grant to find the affects of mirrors in the gym but is having problems getting enough information regarding this topic...and i can't find a damn thing anywhere.

what are your thoughts? and if you know of any documention anywhere, please provide?

if he gets the grant and can prove its worth, he can set up a gym in the local school's weight room with mirrors for all the athletes who train there.

thanks

can't point you towards any documentation, but i'm sure everyone at EF would agree that mirrors are essential for lifting, as they allow you to correct form/watch for errors in your lift, etc. a training partner can do the same to some degree, but it's much easier and accurate for you to see and correct your own form.

i totally agree, they are a necessity by all means...he just needs some type of past study, documentation, various opinions, etc.

Mirrors are of vital importance in the gym. You need them, so that you can admire and flex your muscles.

exactly......... i like them so that i can see how pretty im getting

A necessity!

Mirrors: gotta have em.

Otherwise, what's the point of doing a killer arms workout if you can't check out your own double biceps pose?

I mean, seriously guys, are we working out beause its fun or because we want to see ourselves sporting huge guns?

I don't like mirrors. I don't think that they are of benefit to your training at all. You shouldn't be watching yourself lift in the mirror...unless you are doing curls or something. When squatting or deadlifting you should not be looking at yourself...you should be concentrating on perfect form.

Last time I trained and there was a mirror around I kept watching myself in the mirror and it would throw my form off.

...they are beneficial to ensure you get symmetrical form when using dbs....such as shoulder hunching etc....

I've recently gone from lifting at the local Gold's to lifting at home and I haven't really missed them. Then again, there are no ladies around to ogle discreetly. :)

All in all, I'd say it's necessary to have at least a few around to check up on form.
