It's called, "All we are saying" (2006)

It's about the degradation of the music industry, the lack of art, art, curruption of commericialism (which is degradation..). Lots of legendary musicians from all genres of all time line's give there input on just about everything. Preservinbg art, identifying those who are truly artists...it's sick if you're passionate about music.

Cool I'll have to watch it. I wholeheartedly agree with what you wrote in regards to the music industry. Are they blaming MTV for a lot of it?

Yup, some of them were saying how mtv was really what turned the industry to what it is. Image driven as opposed to musically. Many of the artists really express frustration and you can really see it. I like it especially because the artists seem to give a really sincere response to alot of it. Mind you, it's not all about the current state of music, alot of the muscians reminise on their careers, really describe what it means to be an artists on a very revealing level. It helps you understand really what they're about, in life and music, together.

And the dude from the black eyed peas was in it (smart dude) and he was just going on to say that just because something sounds like noise or it doesnt sound like music or because you cant hear the beat or the rhythm doesnt mean it's not music or doesnt make sense. You simply just cant comprehend it. lol, I thought he was speaking from my mouth for a second. But there, he was basically speaking to all the very ignorant people telling them that it's stupid to say one thing is music and another is not.

where are you watching it? is it on TV?

yeah, it's done now. plus it's on a movie channel, non-american...chances are you wont have it broadcasting on your tv.

But then wouldn't the whole point of the documentary regarding the deteriorating state of then music industry be void? Or are they just referring to the commercialism that cookie cutter pop music ushers in?
I consider rap/hip-hop to be more poetry than music. Poetry with a beat. A looping hook for 4+ minutes does not music make.

people vote with thier dollars.

that "shit" they say ain't music -- well it ain't stopping the dumb teenagers in this country from buying evry hiphop/dance/techno/emo shit out there.

Record companies market shit that sells. if people keep buyijng, they'll keep putting it out. I haven't bought a top-40 shit since prollly 1994.

Kids buy what they're told to buy, what's in high rotation on MTV and Clear Channel stations. Just because stuff is selling, doesn't mean it's necessarily what people would prefer if they weren't being manipulated.

exactly. And in addition to that, not alot of kids growing up know different. To them, this is good because they havent been able to experience alot of the same things older generations had.

And it's not really a vote with dollars. People will always have a desire for music, most will anyways, and so, they'll take whats available. they wont know how to say, "hey, stop with the shit music and this commercial stuff, make us good music". So, its gonna take some brave artists, i think, to really change the direction of the entire industry.

Yeah, well he would have a vested interest in that point of view...

well, lol, I dont know what her colour has to do with anything, but I'm amusing you implying that she's into hip-hop..bastard lol. But that's just it, screaming music energizes you, despite the fact that you cant understand what they're saying, you still come back to it? I, for the life of me, cant figure out why, but that's just because the music doesnt translate through me like it does you. Same goes for my interest in rap and your hate for it.

In all honesty, I dont see the point of devaluing another genre or type of music. Like, if you dont like it, why not end it there? Keep your mouth shut and dont worry about. Why hate on it? because you dont like? if it's the quality of the music you disagree with and you understand what good quality versus bad quality is for that genre of music, than I can agree with that. But for example, most of the people who shoot down rap could tell you who all the bad artists are but none of the good ones. This to me means that they havent seen the genre full circle, taken time to understand it and basically miss-judge the whole genre as a whole. It's stupid. That's why I dont bother trying to cut up other genres cause I cant always tell the good musicians from the bad and I might sound stupid to the people who know better than me.

Then we all know where the fault lies right??

Odd, i never had this problem as a kid. I STILL listen to shit i did when I was 14. I was the last of the era which listened to music cuz it was "good", not just "cool"

just because there hasn't been a decent opera written in 100 years doesn't mean that opera is dead.

commercialization of good music is a given.

search out for newer more grassroots forms of music if you want pure expression.
