im new to elite but would like some input..

could i get the folks of elite to critque my deadlift form? this video was done tonight 6/7/07. i tried 245 but thought that my form broke pretty badly so i wont be posting that lift (also it is to dark to really see anything)

currently im 5'7" 155ish lbs (deadlift is 225lbs)

Try to keep your hips a little lower right at the start of the lift. Other than that, looks good to me.
 
Deadlifting in flip-flops isn't a good idea. Get yourself a solid base for transmission of forces through to the ground.

The first rep looks fine. You lose your balance at the top and that could be due to bad footing. I'm assuming that the sloping floor is more due to the camera than the floor itself.

Deload the bar on the floor between reps. The name 'deadlift' comes from the idea of lifting a 'dead' weight. Let the bar rest for a moment after lowering rather than working on stretch reflex.

Try to work without straps if you can and please put more clothing on for the next vid.
 
You should post the other vid showing you lifting heavier weight. It is easy to keep proper form with light weight. A vid of your max lift will show any faults in technique. As far as this vid goes, Blut Wump's tips cover it.

Looks like a romainian deadlift to me, I agree with all the other points made here. Especially the flipflops, deloading bar, and straps points.
 
well i apriciate the tips and will not take them lightly. i dont normally lift in flip flops but i just had this overwhelming feeling to try this (as ive heard in other forums that lifting barefoot or in flatshoes is popular). as for the clothing, does anyone else live were it is currently 100 degrees at 9pm and over the next few months will propably reach 130 degrees during the day..but yes i will cover my skinny ass up next time... :mix:


about the deloading how long should the pause be at the bottom.. when i do this excersize i almost always open my hand and regrip (or strech my fingers), and when i dont use straps i switch my grip ( one palm in one palm out and rotate on each rep).

If you were opening your hand and stretching your fingers in that video it must have been REALLY fast because it looks like the bar never stopped moving. Pick up the weight, put it down, count to 3 (or stand up). Reset your grip pull again.. Rinse and repeat. A lot of guys treat it as 5 sets of 1 rep with no rest to emphasize the "dead" part of the lift.

im planning on not using straps any more and switching my grip on every rep in order to work my grip strength more ill work on a longer pause also.

There isn't a regulated time that need occur. Just as long as the weight completely settles on the floor. The main thing to get away from is bouncing.

Don't over-complicate your lifting. My personal preference is to use double-over grip until it starts to fail after which I'll switch to mixed grip. I think that using double-over whenever you can, helps a lot in building grip strength. Some here get good mileage from the hook grip.

Regarding pause-time. I usually just let the bar rest long enough to re-inflate myself with air. Towards the end of a set, I might take two or three huge gasps. I know some guys who stand up between reps.

i dont want to complicate things. i just want to prevent injury as i am reasonably new to lifting and dont want to be layed up for a few months, injured due to bad form. again thank you to all posters, your input is valued

Right. THOSE are popular. Not flip flops. Your body can't fall out of your skin or a well laced pair of chucks. On the other hand, if the strap breaks and the flop slips out from underneath while you've got the weight... you could fall back...and if u don't have the reaction to release the bar.. it could be pretty ugly.
