A funny story on freedom, involving the flag in your avi.
You know that soldiers in the Confederacy, of the Civil War fought for 'freedom'?
....yeah. Slavery? Nahhh...It was for "states rights". Federal government was prying into state legislation. Southern boys weren't having it.....you know how it turned out. If they had won, it would have been the called the '2nd Revolution', or some shit, but they didn't. Died in the hundreds of thousands, homes burnt, yata yata.
Why? Was their freedom in danger from big brother? maybe....
The point is that those low class, uneducation boys fought like hell, not for freedom, but so a sellect few southern plantation owners could keep their slaves.
You see, before the Civil War, the south had a sweet deal with Europe (mainly UK) for cotton, Europe's population was blowing up and needed cotton for clothes (Industrial revolution, cotton gin, that stuff).
If they lost their slaves, it would cost them millions. The plantationers were also politicians.
Those southern boys who fought and died, fought so a bunch of rich guys, could keep getting richer with slave cotton for European gold. The soldier's freedom was never in jeopardy, but they believed it was....
Their's your freedom...
