I'm getting married!

Puddles

New member
Last Sunday he took me out to a beautiful place down on the beach to watch the sunset. We haven't had much alone time together lately and it was really nice for just the two of us to spend some quiet time together. On the way there, all of the songs on the radio were good ones. When we got to the resteraunt Stromba requested a table outside so we could watch the sun set. Our 20th anniversary is coming up and he was talking about how fast the years have gone by. We talked about the time he asked me to marry him, where we were, and how when he asked me I didn't even realize he was proposing marriage. Then he asked me if I'd still marry him. Jokingly I hesitated a bit, but of course I said yes. Dopey me, I didn't realize he was proposing again! Then he took my hand and got very serious and gave me a real proposal, he pulled out a diamond ring and asked me to marry him all over again, on our anniversary on Sept. 25th, in a church with just a few close friends and our family. I was so filled with emotion I could hardly speak any words other than yes and I love you.

When we got married 20 yrs. ago we went to City Hall but deep down, Stromba has always wanted a church wedding. He had already spoken with the pastor and has the church reserved for our wedding. Stromba had told our daughter his secret about 10 minutes before we left the house, so the first call he made after I said yes was to her. She was so happy. I asked her if she'd be my flower girl and she said thanks for making her dream come true because she's always wanted to be a flower girl. LOL

It's weird, we've been together for 20 yrs. but now we're planning a real wedding! We have so much to do to get organized in 4 weeks. The pastor wants us to write our own vows. At the resteraunt a few people came over and said congradulations. All I could do was smile between little bursts of tears. I am so in love with this man!

I just bought my dress yesterday. A beautiful blue dress from Cachet. I had tried it on ealier in the week and it was too small from monthly bloat...just a few days later and it fit (still a bit tight so time to buckle down on the diet for a few weeks). It's strapless with beadwork on the front and it laces up in the back like a corsette. The beadwork goes down in points into the top part of the skirt part of the dress including the back. It needs to be shortened so I'll go back for that. My husband laughed when he saw 3 bridal magazines on the patio table. I already know the place for the cake and found a pic. in one of the magazines of what I want. The reception will be catered here at home so I've got some decorating to do! My friend and daughter keep saying I need a head piece...I don't know what to do!

Then today, just after I bought the dress, an online friend who I haven't met in person yet asked me to be her maid of honor at her wedding, 3 weeks after mine. I'll get to wear my blue dress again! LOL

You better take lots of pics! How many people do you know that would marry the same person all over again!! Good for you guys!!!!

Congrats....Remember the hard work actually begins after the wedding

LOL We've been married for 20 yrs, we just never had a church wedding and last time it was basically just our parents and a couple of friends as witnesses. There were some years early on that were a bit tough at times, but overall we've had it absolutely fantastic! I feel like I'm 18 again! We're keeping it very small, originally we said 20 people, of course it's gone up and now it's at 30 but that's the limit...we're having the reception at home and I don't think we can fit more than that!

CONGRATS! :) You two are such an inspiration! I hope my honey is still as romantic after 20-some years! When's the actual date?

Sept. 25th! Right around the corner. Leave it to a guy to give a girl one month to put a wedding together! He said he'll take care of the food. I told him I'm going too. Leave it up to him and he won't get any veggies or salads. LOL

Geez that is amazing Ms. P. You guys have been married almost as long as I've been breathing and your man is still that romantic. Holy shit.....

{{{{{{{{{{sigh}}}}}}}}}}}}

I may have to drive down for the festivites......It should only take me 17 hours.....LOL

Congratulation to you both.*Big Hug*

This is the Sweetest thing I've read in awhile.

I'm so happy for you. And it sounds like a blast. You must take some pics. :rose:

Thanks everyone! :)

Today I got a face peel (this should take 10 yrs. off my face...yeah, right!) and did a bunch of wedding stuff. I found a place for chairs, white wood with a lattice back and cushioned seats. Went to the party supply, Costco, fabric, and craft stores and got lots of stuff to decorate. We're going with white and blue to match my dress. I'm having so much fun! I can't wait to order the cake LOL I'm gonna eat lots of it too!

Well Ms Puddles, I am in awe.... total admiration and respect for you and your husband. You two have faced many of the ups and downs that life has dished out and yet you still have respect, friendship, understanding, compassion and are madly in love for the cherry on the icing that is the cake of your life!!!!

I am sooooooooooo happy for you, my heart is bursting.

When I read about events like this it gives me strength and inspires me to keep waking up.

You two laugh together. You play together. You get down and dirty and are each others' strength when life leaves you bewildered; without breath or sense of logic. You pick each other up, wash that skinned knee with the greatest of care, kiss the wound and magically the pain disappears.

*thunderous applause*

I raise my glass to you....

An inspiration for us all (in AND out of the gym)... LOL

My kids and I wish for you another 20 THOUSAND years together in happiness and calm. I wish you strength and love that will see you through many more lives....

I am so very happy for you M. :)

Thanks, Werd. You know us pretty well and your words mean a lot to me. :)

How about helping me write a wedding toast for him? LOL

I was soaking in the bubble bath a couple of nights ago and I wrote my vows to him. It was written on this tiny little Boyd's bear notepad that has a sweet quote about friendship on it. The words came easy even though I thought it would be hard. I'm going to frame it up for him to give to him as a wedding present. I drew a little heart with an arrow on one side and the date on the other. OK...yes, I'm acting like I'm 18! :D

The guest list keeps growing. As word got around in the family, now his aunt and uncle (who are also our daughter's godparents) want to fly in from AZ. When I talked to the uncle on the phone last night I said this was just an excuse to get the family together. He mentioned how much better this occasion is compared to the last couple earlier in the year, which were funerals. I hadn't even thought about it, but it would be nice if the family could all get together more often for good times as opposed to bad. It's much better to cellebrate life!!!

No words truer spoken.... :supercool

That made my night. What an awesome thing for the two of you to do. It's so inspiring and heart-warming to read about couples who just get better over time. Good luck with the wedding. I can relate to the adventure of last minute planning. My wedding is in less than 6 weeks and I have a ton to do!

awwww, I'm so happy for you!...it's nice to have someone love you that much!

Mmmmm...I ordered the CAKE! I tasted a few samples too. LOL I got the dress altered and was gonna pick it up today but was too busy with my daughter who was off from school because of the hurricane. Maybe I'll pick it up tomorrow. I ordered the chairs and an extra table. I'm enjoying having the reception here at home. Got some pretty decorations, everything will be in white and blue. Tonight I bought wine for the tables...of course I had to open one of them with dinner. ;)

Hubby's been working hard and fell asleep early tonight. I just layed there holding his hand watching him while he slept for a while. I love times like that. :)

Puddles do you have everything ready now for your big day?? There's no way I'd be able to plan something like that in such short period of time....

Hope your getting more and more excited!!!!

Of course I don't have everything done, but it's coming along just fine! I have an appointment with the hair dresser for color and cut and a consultation for "wedding hair" on Tues. I have no idea what to do with my hair! The reception will be here at home so I ordered tables and chairs (white lattice back chairs with a cushioned seat, I'll add a toile bow on them to spruce them up a bit) and got lots of stuff to decorate with (my dress is blue so the colors will be blue and white, white table cloths, blue plates, blue ribbon, toile in blue and white for tables, windows and behind the groom and bride over my dining room mirror, flowers, candles, etc). We're keeping it pretty simple, just wanting to share the day with our family and a few close friends.

I talked to the photographer yesterday and I like the girl. I think she'll do a nice job. That was supposed to be one of 2 things hubby had to do (hire a photographer and get with the caterer) but he's been busy so I took over. Not much time left, 2 weeks!

I added a couple of pics of my dress into my gallery if you want to see. I'm so happy! I'm going to wear the dress at my friend's wedding 3 weeks later when I'm her brides maid...the color works perfectly with her beach theme wedding. :)
