I'm getting air into my vial! Help!

I just did a draw of 1 cc of fina and after I removed to needle, I heard air going into the vial. Then I saw a few tiny air bubbles appear on the rubber stopper. If air gets into the vial is the fina not sterile any more? Should I stop using it?????

I've had this happen. You are supposed to fill the syringe with air and inject air into the vial before you draw out. This equalizes the preassure. You sucked cc's out without putting anything in and a vacuum formed. It honestly isn't going to hurt anything... but I've had it happen several times with no problem.

I put 1.2 ccs of air in prior to pulling out 1 cc of oil. I did this every time. I looked at the vial stopper and noticed that the rubber looks chewed up from the needel. I used a 22 gauge when I filtered the fina. perhaps I damaged the stopper when i repeatedly filled the vial when filtering????

As long as it's still ok to use....that cool with me. Thanks.

This makes no sense.... if you draw up 1.2 cc's of air outta thin air then you shoot it in the vial...that is the same air your letting in the other way isn't it or am I missing something?

The pressure inside a vial is the same as the air pressure around you. If you push in a pin and then pull out the oil, you are creative negative pressure in the vial (a vacuum) which makes it harder to pull out the oil. If you pull air into the pin, stab the vial, turn the vial upside down and then inject the air into the vial, you creative positive pressure in the vial. This pressre then helps push out the oil much more easily, and you never have the problem of negative pressure in the vial.

Think of those drinks cartons that you puncture with a straw to open...if you try to drink the whole thing without letting any air back in it's difficult. However, if you blow air into the carton, the pressure forces the liquid out into your mouth...........................

Thanks.

OK, I give my self the dumb ass award on this question. Just like you said, I'm taking the air into the case and then injecting that into the vial so what is the big deal if more air leaked in anyway.

I'll shut up now

Just make sure that you spend time tapping the syringe to get any air bubbles out so you don't inject any air bubbles into your muscle tissue. It's not gonna kill you but it's just very good practice to ensure that you get all the air out before sticking the pin.

...and I guess bottom line is that there is a percentage of benzoil alcohol in the juice. It's going to kill any germs even if they could get into the vial. Your juice is safe.
