Photography has grown intensely competitive. More photographers and less work and lower prices.

I would much rather have photos that are art gallery quality vs cenetred, you can always crop.

Use somebody who has references, and go ask them how he/she was as a photographer....that would be my advice. That way you can ask them all about the photographer and get the TRUTH. See the work and all that BS.

References are the best! Use more than ONE reference for the same photographer though, some like to "refer" you to their friends and all that shit.

Photography is like art. What one person likes may turn off the other.

Artsy photography is rather controversial. A lot of people prefer photos that are clear and centered.

FOR SURE REFERENCES and check with the BBB. Fuck price on this one.

I am a wedding photographer..........just looking for ideas around here.

References? I have a bunch. You do realize that you are talking to their friends though. I would never ask someone to talk to strangers unless they were a friend.

I'd be put off if a business gave my number to someone looking for refs. Got better things to do myself.

I would think choosing a wedding photographer would be very difficult. You are hiring someone to capture your special day. All the memories. Every detail that makes that day special.

I would choose someone who has experience shooting weddings, can demonstrate varied styles of photography--photojournalism as well as candids. When looking at their work I'd look for sensuality, a certain softness in the pictures. Also, how well they shoot faces -- it isn't just the action shot that's important, if you are able to see peoples' faces in the pictures, that shows the photographer made a connection. I'd choose a photographer that shot in color as well as black and white. Someone that would make me feel comfortable. Someone that can support that by not making me worry about the smaller, less important pictures like the cake. A photographer who would feel the freedom or sense that if they see something cool going on someplace, they can capture it. Magic is better to shoot for than coverage. Someone that would go for quality, not just quantity.

I'm sure there are more things I would look for if I put more thought into it.

references in the way of actual pictures and than phone numbers to suppourt them. I doubt most folks buy negatives but who knows these days. As a business person to get in my doors i want pictures to look at, numbers and what you did for them, and I will check with the BBB. In my field many of us use the same people so word of mouth plays into this.

I'd pay more for better quality and composition. I want a photographer that can really capture people's emotions. Would want your standard posed photographs and then tons of candids. My friend just got married and had a wonderful photgrapher. This lady ran around all day and night. My friends had flown up to her home in Maine to meet her. While they were there she took them on a walk through her gardens and just started taking random photos of them when they weren't paying attention. These test photos really captured feeling and emotion. They were great. At the wedding this women had unlimited energy... ran around with about 4 cameras around her neck at all times. Took mainly black/white, some color and some digital. I was in the wedding so I got to spend a lot of time with this women. I was really impressed. Can't wait to see the proofs.
