It is because I have come under a little heat and my real name was sent to me 3 times from an unknown untrackable email addy on my ziplip account. So bear with me bros until I an sure I am safe. I have nothing to be busted for but still..........

Quad, please do a search under "You are not safe". This thread is specifically what you are referring to, it has not been answered yet, other than a little skating around this issue. Please after reading the thread reply based on your response, I'm curious as to your opinion.

Welcome to the club, quadsweep. Why not bring my post on this page (that has over 100 replies) up top and make it a sticky until this problem is resolved. Many members are suffering this security breach........and it appears to be connected to "Platinum" membership, and the personal information given on sign-up.
Bet we get some answers with you on the case. I can't answer email either till I know.

Is it very useful to give his real name on EF platinum ??
This option should better be taken away from the subscription...ain't it ???

first I am nothing.. i have very few posts.. very few people on this board know me.. i dont sell i dont even use.. i just happen to know about anabolics and enjoy the research and giving out some help...but recently i have been getting emails about different boards out there.. different sources.. people askin me for sources.. all sorts of stuf.. i have no idea how or why people are askin me.. i really dont know why.... i am not a platinum member...

i dont know but almost all of these emails look like some type of setup or something..some of them are people saying things like ive seen your posts and wonder if you could help me out.. blah blah blah.. im not sure what to do... any advice you guys could give would be great..

so far i am not giving out any type of advice to people i have not talked to i dont talk about anything remotely illegal.. but i am wondering about the possibility of "them" being able to read my email...

sorry but i just wanted to make a note that this is happening to a new member and someone w/ little to know experience in the game...???????

BE SAFE bro's

Wow, this is certainly a weird and sticky situation. Thanks for the post referring to this....I got an email the other day from a brother of mine, there was no message....but it was sent under his real name from ziplip.....I thought it kinda strange that he would send no message.....and especially have him use his real name when sending email? Any ideas about what the problem with ziplip might be?

yeah i use ziplip too.. and keep getting stange emails...
I emailed ziplip and hopefully they can help me out...

The stuff that is naming us by our real names is coming from caliberdesign, according to traceroute. Who is caliberdesign? Just scroll down to the fine print at the very bottom of this page.

Well that seems like it might be alright, and maybe just an error or some computer fuck up, but it could also be a worm virus that is sending an email to all the users with their "real name" and also Blank Carbon Copying it to where ever it was intended end up for who know what reason. That is my concern.

Almost all cyber-terrorism, scams, illegal info gathering are originated in the main company that is having the problem. Some poeple just have to play, and they consider this fun.

Hey Quadsweep......looks like my thread on the mail problem has been removed. Guess we are going to be stonewalled.

At first I thought someone hacked the Elite Platinum database. But after reading every post in ironmaster's thread I am now thinking that it is a virus. I don't believe anyone hacked into anything.

Why?

Because Techrugby, The Undertaker and Canuck4 all received the same e-mail and they are not Platinum users.

Frackal received the same e-mail message to his personal e-mail account and it was made out to the person who pays for his Internet service.

It seems the virus can find information not only via your e-mail but also from your computer itself (ie computer name, name in Microsoft Word, etc).

To everyone that received the e-mail: go to the site Zyg recommended in ironmaster's thread and see if you find a virus.

I don't believe it's a fucked up mail relay otherwise everyone would have gotten that message and many of us haven't. Also, what hacker would just send Hello Real Name. They'd be WAY more smart ass than just that.

Mvmaxx, Undertaker had his email address on his elite profile, I dont' know about the other bro's.

This isn't a widespread virus if a virus at all, so far I've only heard about this through elite fitness people. My other bro's on other boards have heard nothing of this, neither has my company that has over 20,000 employees all using email.

If it is a virus that is just effecting elitefitness users then it has obviously gotten into the elitefitness servers, let alone many of it's users.

You say the person that pays for Frakal's internet services name popped up on his email, that could be good or bad. Maybe that means that they have access to the person who pays for their isps services which means probably their pay method also. It could also just mean that it simply accesses the registry information for the persons computer where they email hit.

My issue is that it's obviously known to George and his IT staff that our platinum fee's go to pay for (that is if he has any), yet he's choosing not to respond to the thread anymore, and the last answers he gave stated that he really didn't know what was happening.

If it is a virus a good admin could find out what it's intent is and how much damage it is causing, if it's not a virus, a good admin could find out how it happened. If it is something else a GOOD ADMIN would atleast admit fault and give us updates even if to say he still don't know.

Pist and still waiting for "our Good Admin" to show up,

Just an update. I don't think this is a virus. It doesn't affect just platinum members, but anyone who has done any business at all with elite or MQ that required a name and shipping address.
For example, mvmaxx, didn't you win the contest for recommending the best threads for that forum? Right in the announcement, George says to send him your real name, address, and email name in order to receive your prize. So our info is laying around there from a number of sources.
I have thoroughly scanned for viruses......nothing. However, I have found that a "hostile script" is running somewhere on my machine. It's location hasn't been pinpointed, but then scripts morph, change extensions, change locations.......real hard to track down. They can be transmitted via a web page, popups or through email, and do not require that that you open an attachment. I believe that this one arrived disquised as a windows update. Windows will automatically accept these even if you have blocked anonymous scripting. At one time it was running out of the windows help file, but can't be found now.
Again, I'm not ignoring those who have emailed me recently....I'm not using elite mail till this is explained.

I hear ya ironmaster and you may be correct. I did win that contest but I never gave George my info and thus never received my prize. Then again, I didn't receive that e-mail.

My thoughts are this, if a hacker was to hack the Platinum database and find everyone's real names they most likely would not send out repetitive "Dear Real Name" e-mails with no message body to random users. Rather they would put something like "HAHAHAH I have your real name you stupid fuck and you're going to get busted Mr Real Name" - or something to that effect. Hackers are sarcastic sons of bitches, believe me I know many.

To me it is a much bigger chance that it was a fucked up mail relay or a virus. Although if you don't have that virus then that may help prove that it's not that.

I believe Elite mail is safe, I don't however believe your information on the Platinum database is all that safe.

Maybe you should just save all your data files on a zipdisk or CDrom and just re-format your hard drive. That should wipe it out I would think. I have not received anymore of these emails but I am still pretty sketchy!

i am still getting wierd messages to my ziplip account... i dont even check my elite mail anymore...

again.. i am not platinum... never gave out my real name the emails just use my ID here... i also get blank emails from bogus email addresses...

and in something that COULD be completely unrelated.. recently i have had 3 females and 2 males aske me about sources the first time they email me... again this could be completey unrelated... and most likely is as i have recently been using a new board that popped up and seems to be getting populated with a lot of newbies.. but.. it just has me on edge..even though i really have nothing to hide..

i can almost say with 100% confidence that this has nothing to do with a virus.. maybe a hacker.. but no one has said anything about credit cards being charged or anything like that and that would be the only useful info that a hacker could have gotten from anyone here i would think...

really though this is no big deal.. i have created some other email accounts and i am using them.. yeah its an inconvenience.. but really nothing more then that... just be extra safe guys

Bro's,

I thought I explained what happened. We sent those messages by accident. We were trying to send an Elite Fitness News, but we messed up and did not put in the text of the mailing -- this was just like the ALA article you received last Monday. It is no cause for concern. Please let the other Bro's know.

Thanks for finally shedding light on this and ending the hysteria.
