Idea: Newbie Forum

lowpro

New member
It seems we get plagued with newbies asking questions without doing a little research and/or taking the time to read the rules. It's fair to think that it's easy to miss the NEWBIES PLEASE READ sticky. It's at the bottom of the other stickys dealing with promotions. It's also common chat board etiquette to look for the rules - which, not every new member belongs to other chat boards nor do they know that etiquette.

What if, there was a Newbie Forum that would allow new members to:

1 - introduce themselves
2 - read stickys of the most commonly asked questions
3 - read the RULES sticky
4 - post 1st cycles, since the majority get that wrong to begin with (I did)

Also, this would alleviate the hassle for some members (who'd rather not open another source question or another "what should I take" question) from even having to deal with the common foul ups. For most of us, I'm guessing, we usually jump to this forum first. I think it would solve a few of the minor problematic issues right off the bat.

This is just an idea and I'm sure some of you might think, "...Not another forum." Maybe, maybe not. If it sounds like an idea worth presenting, we could tweak it to benefit all members.

Your thoughts?

They would still be posting stupid shit on this board

as dumb as some questions are...it can still be pretty humorous... ;)

Yep....nothing will change the newbies bro, we were all one at sometime...live with it!

We were all newbies - yes.

I, at least read the rules. Maybe most of us did or didn't. It's not an issue of "living with it," but more of an issue of helping the newbies out before some members start bashing them when they do ask stupid questions or make stupid mistakes.

It's about numbers right? The more the better? (or at least, taht's what was stated by other mods) It's sad to see a newbie make a mistake and get burned at the stake - then see them not return and bash EF on other boards; thus detering more members to join. It's the cause and effect principle.

This is y there is a sticky at the top of the page. I'm in no way affiliated with anyone from EF and i'll say other boards do not compare and by the time they do EF will be that much bigger. There's maybe one other decent board but again it does not compare!

amen :Chef:

Yep, everyone was a newb at one point. Just get used to it. They are not that annoying to answer anyway.

The most annoying part is not the newbies, it's the "oldies" who come down on them like a ton of bricks on tren.

While it does seem like a good idea.it would be a pain programming wise to set up

We have to take the good with the bad, even those who go plat upon first signing up

Newbies aren't going to read the stickies, at last the majority of them will just ignore the information. We can do our best to point them in the right direction.

I'll point this thread out to the administration, let them take a look at your suggestion ;)

Ideally its a great suggestion. But as stated earlier newbs will still come here to ask the same questions. It might be worth a try. it will not stop all the issues, but I think it will at least cut back some of the common newb q's.
It may help if the new forum is titled "Newbie steroid forum" or something like that, because it the newbie forum title does not say steroid in it they will not go to it because that is what they are really here for.
