ID scan when crossing the Mexican border?

Heard from a friend that customs enters your drivers license info and asks a few questions then enters them into a database.

Are they doing this randomly or to everybody?

Also what if you have a traffic warrant? Will it pop up in the computer?

I cross the border several times a week. They do that to everyone. When they scan your ID your info gets put into Customs database. I believe this is done just to keep track of who is coming in and out of the country. I've heard that the FBI's database is somehow tied in with the Customs. If your on the FBI's most wanted list they'll catch you. As for traffic warrants I don't think it comes up. I had an outstanding traffic warrant a few months ago and I was never questioned about it at the border.

where are u crossing? i've heard they do that at TJ and such, but I've been to Nuevo Laredo (3 months ago) and they didn't have any such machine to scan a ID, nor did they ask anybobdy to present it- just state your nationality and go on..

I don't know why ID cards are such a big deal, personally I fear the x-ray machines they use to view cars. I have never taken the trip due to getting busted with the x-ray...(can they see vials and amps)?

No, the x-rays don't pick up shit, vials are brought through all the time. But if your ID card is scanned and you have any outstanding warrants they will arrest you (remember g-dogg's old post)

If what you said was true, then I shall make a trip to Mexico soon, I only live an hour a way from the Laredo border

The crossings my friend has done were in Tijuana. But he was able to bring back multiple vials through the metal detectors with no problems, but they are also using a hand held wand scanner (or were) and that could potentially bring problems, but never for my friend

If you have had a customs violation they will red flag you over.

If you have has a customs violation they will red flag you over. This has happened to me every time they enter my info into the computer they tell me to step aside to see an officer
