depends on the drug as well as the generic manufacturer.

some drugs are more difficult to synthesize and/or the primary manufacturer uses a different tableting or base material that is "better" for the delivery and uptake of the drug than that used by the generic.

I've read so many different opinions over on the drug board, but every doc, psych, nurse and surgeon I've talked to assures me that they are the same.

This would be a good question for Juicedpigentrails or BBalter#324.

then i wonder why i was started on generic prozac. insurance protocol calls for it. it's also about 4 dollars a bottle and the compound is archaic. "real" Prozac was way more expensive. geez, it's not like it's Jordache or Sergio Valente....

You talking about the 17-year thing for multiple name brands, or just the drug patent?

Also, I have no idea who Sergio Valente is... lol

I've read the same about OC's.

Seems to be a general consensus (although I've never tried straight OC's).

Ideas why? Would synthetic opiois fall under the clause that Macro mentioned? But why is it so prominant with this class of drugs?

for instance, true Vicodin 750's over hydrocodone. almost everyone will say there is a difference there, in quality, mostly.

i'm not sure what you are asking me there.

For what it is worth my father is a OB/GYN and has a background in Pharmacology and he will tell you that they are different, but not that they are neccesarily effective or not effective compared to the brand name the reaction to the specific drug will vary from person to person. Specifically with OC (birth control) the small modifications or changes in the type of estrogen or progesterone used from the brand verses the generic may cause a patient problems if there is a switch and for others none.

From my use carbogoline is carbogoline wheather it's named cabaser or wheather it's named dostinex

I so read that as Desoxyn at first and was, like, DUDE! Hook a brotha up!

lol

*flips through PDH*

... carbamazepine, carboplatin...

What's the chemical name for carbogoline? Most PDH's reference by chem name, and not brand name ('cause after 17 years, there can be more than one brand name in addition to a multitude of generics)

It depends on what medication you are talking about. That's what I've gathered from Docs, nurses and my patients.
