Hey everyone! Had an overall shitty workout today on the flat bench press. Was pretty torn up from back and deads on monday. I went for 370lbs raw on the bench press and got it barely assisted, but assisted none the less!! So I was defeated! I will not let this happen again next week! :mad:

you are only defeated if you give up. great generals don't give up they regroup and plan a different strategy to conquer, but they never give up.

try some speed work and relax on the maxing for a few weeks and come back and wage war on the iron
 
I'm sure Brute or other members would help you set up a good plan to get you there. Sometimes you need to take two steps back to take three forward. Good luck, Beast!

Great wisdom Suston! Thats what I should do! Its just so tough to sit back and not max! I love to lift heavy, bu maybe I should try the speed work. ThanX! Site wont let me give anymore karma :(

that's the right fuckin attitude, brotha!! dude, take a week off from heavy raw benchin and do what we discussed...the 10x3 at 45-45% of 1RM(use 405 as 1RM which should be 160-165). if this is too heavy, drop down to 150. it should take you 3 seconds to perform a set(yea..that fast!!!). do that shit brotha...get exact your revenge....remember THE 3 D'S.....DOMINATION...DEVASTATION...& DESTRUCTION!!!! :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

ThanX Brute! Im gonna do it! Let me ask you a question. Can I do the speed day this sunday? Then follow it up with some incline and shoulder work? That way I get it in before my next chest workout on thursday. What the time between sets again? 30 seconds right? ThanX brother! Im gonna get my revenge!!!

DUDE!!!!! i've been down that road in both cases..that's going to be too much. alternate it with your heavy raw bench...i know this isn't what you want to do but it like mike said...gotta take two steps back to take three steps foward. follow up the speed work next thursday with some of what you said...inclines and shoulders. try this for one week or two and then go back to your RAW bench(heavy). just try this brotha.....i know it will work!!! tb

ThanX Brute!!!! Im gonna do it! Fuck it! Ill suck it up next week! Im a bit confused, just to clear something up. You said do the speed work with 45% of 405? And you said it was 160-165? It would be 185 I think. If I did 45% of 365 it'd be 165 Which seems super light. Im sure I could do 185 for 3 in 3 seconds. ThanX again Brute!!!!

nope..that would be closer to 60% of 405. i just figured it out on the calculator...its 162..so 160 would be the number. its supposed to be light so it would associate with speed. i'm sure you can do, just focus on that shit. and if its too heavy drop 10lbs. No prob brotha..i know how it feels when you have no choice but to go light...i hope to do better(no heavy shit though!!) now that i got some aleve in my system which i respond to. so i know how it feels...would like to do some major reps though to workout my need for heavy shit!!! LOL. tb

u can still lift heavy just dont max every week....i know how ya feel...hard for me not to also....but hit it hard man...ur gonna smash 405 no problem

ThanX Brute! Its gonna feel strange, but Ill do it!! 160lbs it is! Whats wrong with your shoulder? That shit sucks. Youll still slaughter 600 on the bench! That shit would crush me!!!!

oh u know the same. realized that my shoulder responds better to aleve than to ibuprofen. right now, my shoulder is better even though now as i type this. i may have to drop the pin presses(wide and close) since today that caused my shoulder pain to arise. the reverse band floor presses were alright though. oh well, you live and learn. LOL. tb

I know you will find a way around the pain! Do pin presses help alot? Never tried them before. I have done 455lb negatives down to the pins though. I see you use ALOT of techniques! I have alot to learn. Your gonna be alright though. Just concentrate on blasting that weight through the roof. Shit 23 years old and approaching 600 on the bench! Thats something to be proud of!

sunday was the best day i've had in a long time..pr's....been resting since for the meet on sat..done lil band ar but thats it...feel great tho...i cant wait till the meet..

pin presses do help out a lot on the bench...you gotta try them. i gotta take them out since its killin my shoulder. thanks, your right being 23 and approaching a 600 bench is something to be proud of...you just never notice it until someone tells ya...would be nice to bench 700 like dave gulledge(he's 22) and thinkin about his lift keeps me humble. tb

Hey Beast, I know how you feel about wanting to max all the time. I hit 305 on bench at the beginning of Sept, and I wanted 315 so bad! But I didn't give myself enough time to build up to it. 315 fell flat this week and didn't move an inch.
 
3 words, five by five. my dad has been doing this for 13 weeks until recently. first week he failed at 285, so he dropped to 255, just 2 weeks ago he completed 315 for a full 5x5. Im sure his max has considerably increased, just a thought. Good Luck hitting that 405 by december. My goal by december is 315 on th bench, 425 on the squat and 500 on the dead. and a 300+ power clean.

Damn! Thats fucking awesome bro!! 405 raw is alot of fucking weight. Nothing compared to the goals weve set though. Thats amazing youve gone from a shirted 405 to a raw 405 for two singles in less then a year! How much more does a shirt give you?
Have you tried 600 yet? Always inspires me to hear about your lifts!!! ThanX :D

Know that feeling bro. The way I max is a little different. Ill have my spotter keep his hands floating around the bar, but if he helps me any I dont count the lift. I find its helped me to get alot stronger. Mainly cuz of the mental aspect. 365 flew up when I did it that way. Do you ever notice fluctuations in strength on your bench? Its insane The bench presses are the most unpredictable lifts for me. Youll get 315 in no time, Im willing to bet its all mental. ThanX Again :D

Nice! ThanX Knight! Ive really been considering trying 5X5. Maybe Ill start it after I try a speed day next week. It seems like a really solid program. After what you just sent me, it makes me want to start the routine. haha ThanX Knight!

thanks...fuckin shock me when i did it. my shirt give me about 100 lbs thanks to metal militia. i haven't tried 600 yet but when my double denim gets here, we'll see!! tb
