If any of you have gone off BC in order to help along your diet. I am considering it since I am not in a relationship at the moment. If you have how dramatic is the diffrence? How long did you stay off of it? What happen when you went back on it?

Nope. I am on BCP and staying on them. The convenience is well worth it to me. Honestly, I can't imagine they are what would make it hard for me to get lean.

I was taking high dose multi-phasic pills for 15 years or so, and about a year ago swiched to very low-dose. The estrogen levels of the pills were cut in half - and there was no change to my body.

Thanks Daisy I am on Ortho Tri Cyclin not to sure how high a does pill it is or not. I went on Depo for a year and that effect my ablility to loose weight but I am sure I can on the Ortho because I have in the past.

I told you SMB I always listen to advice just checking to see what more womans experince have been.

Dayna,

I was on ortho try cyclen lo and I stopped taking them a couple of weeks ago, and I can tell that some water weight has gone away. Depo from my experience and some of my friends was the worst as far as weight gain. I would go months without a peroid, which is not good for your body. But if you aren't involved right now try it for a month or two just to see what happens to you. IT is different for everyone. When I had started taking trinorniol I gained like 10 lbs and I was still working out, but my doctor told me that each pill works just a little differently from the next.

Good Luck!

Dayna - I'm on Ortho Tri Cyclen too. A couple years ago, I went off the pill "to give my body a break." WORSE DECISION EVER!!! I do not recommend it at all! My periods were irregular for months and months afterwards, even after I had gone back on the pill. My face broke out horribly and I was an emotional rollercoaster. Don't do it!!

I think they're are much better ways to help your diet!

Yeah right now I am eating very clean on CKD Monday - Saturday losing around a 1lb a week. I started on the pill to get my period regulated it is like clock work now and I like that.

Ouuuuuuuuuu

I can totally relate.

The only and I mean ONLY plus to no OC is that my migraines have lessened in frequency.

oh.. shit.. my gf went of the pill 2 weeks ago for her diet.. yes, her face broke out, but she dumped a lot of water in a couple of weeks - the waste went down by 2inches and she is down from 165 to 159LB. but emotional rollercoasted.. oh.. no.... No carbs, emotional reck on gear - I am going to hang myself -:)

When I was on the Pill, I was an emotional roller coaster. Had horrible food cravings all the time. Even though I kept up with my exercise, I started putting on bodyfat like never before. Gave me bad PMS too.

When I went off the pill, everything went back to normal. Synthetic hormones were not kind to me.

It depends on your own hormonal milieu, as the variation in responses in this thread illustrates ("do it!" "don't do it!"). Just because something happened to one woman doesn't mean it's going to happen to you. Our bodies all make different levels of hormones naturally, which oral contraceptives supplement and eventually replace. Because OCs will eventually shut down your natural hormone production, if you come off suddenly, there'll be a period of time where you have very little hormones in your body at all, which could have any effect under the rainbow; fat gain (menopause anyone?), fat loss, water loss, acne, mood swings, etc. It's very hard to predict.

I say if it's not broke, don't fix it, but it's your body, and your choice.

Personally, going off the pill was the best thing I ever did for my body, and I don't just mean leanness wise.

I would recommend to just stay on it. First of all, when I went off it, my cycle got all messed up. I didn't get it for a couple months, and then when I did start to get it, it was never regular. Plus, then if you decide to go back on it, it makes it hard, too.

I went back on the pill when I started school again this past fall. I'm on yasmin and haven't put on water weight. While it's been nice to have a predictable cycle, I've become an out of control emotional raging bitch. I'm going to go off again as soon as I'm out of pills. As much as it's nice not to think much about birth control, I can't stand being so moody. And my chest went up over a cup size and is always sore. I'm not a huge fan of the pill.

I lost 35 pounds while on alesse. I just went off and haven't noticed any difference in my weight. But I don't gain weight on them either. I think it is worth the convience of not having to worry about getting fat from pregnancy.

Almost all of the side effects you experience on the pill are due to the estrogen. So by dropping the amount of estrogen in the pills, you'll have less water gain, etc. But because the dose is lower you have to be even more careful about taking it at the same time every day!

Right Raina.....it will lower your side effects Dayna. So if weight gain is one...it might stop that for you.

Ah not so good with the regular schedual.. I will keep it in mind though I got about 2 packs left before I go back to the gyno.

You should ideally be taking your pills within the same 1-2 hour time frame every day. I know it's tough. That's why I take mine around 5 pm. I'm always awake then. lol Modern pills really are dosed VERY low though as the earliest ones that were high dose caused severe medical problems for users.

Another thing a lot of women don't know is that the pill doesn't work at all when you're on antibiotics. I don't know why more drs and pharmacists don't stress that. It's an important thing to know.

I figured my wake up and going to bed times vary on the weekend but 5 is pretty safe. Plus my pill pack is the size of a credit card so I just keep it in my purse.

I didn't go off the pill to help with my diet but didn't like the side effects of the pill -- weight gain for me. When I went off it, I lost weight & my periods are very regular but painful. However, calcium & protein help. My husband got snipped so we don't have to worry about BC anymore.

BTW dayna, I love the quote in your sig line.....so true!
