i want to break up a pet breeding monopoly

any ideas how to go about doing this?

my girl wants a pet cat, but i am super allergic to them - itchy eyes, hives, etc.

well, they have hypoallergenic cats that don't produce a certain protein that most people are allergic to. sounds great, right? wrong.

these fucking cats are $900 each...for a cat! i could maybe understand paying that much for a really awesome dog...but a cat? come on, now.

so, i was like, 'sure, go get one...but you better breed the damn thing at least once to get our money back.' and herein lies the problem. every last breeder makes you sign a contract saying you will have the cat spayed/neutered and you won't breed it. you even have to send in a copy of the vet work as verification.

and these are breeders nationwide.

i'm not that fond of cats...but i hate monopolies more. how could i go about breaking up their little party without getting sued in the process?

these people are simply taking advantage of people with allergies and price gouging them as a result.

is it a legitimate legally binding contract? That seems pretty shady. Is this the norm?

i would assume so...it is a contract that you have to sign prior to getting the cat.

most of them even state you can't transfer ownership of the cat, either. if you have to get rid of it for some reason, it MUST go back to the breeder.

this is a load of crap...and i really want to rain on their parade.

i refuse to spend $900 on a cat if i can't breed it to recoup the cost.

that is insane.
Look there really is not much you can do other than not buy the cat..If it is legal than there is no way around it. I originally posted on this thread to laugh, but now I am serious.

Look up the breed and see what the health status is and if there will be any long term problems...Then seriously try to talk the g/f into adopting a cat..Too many kitties go without homes or get displaced...Yeah I am a bad ass but I am a cat lover as well...Talk to her, touch her soft side

we can't have a regular cat...i am deathly allergic, and i refuse to go on meds just to have a pet.

hypoallergenic cat is the only way.
