i dunno what. i was doing OHP's and felt/heard a sickening crunch and my scapula area. now when i try to raise my arm out in front ala, lateral raise, i'm met with a dull pain in my back. any clues??? figures, though, being derailed after running this train non stop for so long.....

Kind of the nature of life. You are going to get hurt. Any physical activity will eventually ding you. Sorry to hear that. I'd rest and maybe hit the advil. Not sure if this is something you can ice or heat but treat appropriately if it makes you feel better. Sometimes if you give it a few days you can get an idea of the extent of the injury and the rate at which it seems to be healing - and if it looks rough, make an appointment sooner rather than later as you can always cancel.

Damn. Don't hear about too many injuries from controlled OHP'ing . . . you hear about it when someone loses a lift or gets an elbow out of the pulling line or something but damn. That sucks bro. I don't even feel like giving you a LoL.

Don't know what your injury is but do you do any type of rotator warmup before lifting? You may want to do some now to help rehab any muscles that may be tweaked right now.

Awhile back in the summer when i was doing seated BB military presses i heard a crunch in my shoulder/collar bone area and it hurt for several weeks. It was a pinched nerve and boy did it hurt!

this was in my lat area. in my profile, there's a pic of my back and where i had my surgery. the pain/tearing feeling is right at the bottom of the scar on my back. everything is fine until i raise my arm out in front of me.

Then don't do it.

As Madcow says, give it a few days. If it seems to be getting worse in any way, make an appointment. After a few days you'll be able to assess what changes you'll need to make to your workouts during the healing process.

Get well soon.

How are we supposed to secure upper back when our shoulders are frorward? As my weights are getting heavier i sometimes feel very shakey with upper back.

Also with front squats, how can i secure my upper back? Maybe any front squat tutorials ?

Thanks =)

Go make your own bloody thread. We're all consoling an injured warrior in this one.

;)

When doing OHP, try to get your head forward as soon as the bar has passed it. In getting this down, you may clonk yourself a time or two but it's soon natural. The arms shouldn't be forwards.

You might simply have a problem with weak stabilizers. There are two solutions to the problem as I see it: a) train with lighter weights for a time while the stabilizers catch up; b) leave the stabilizers to atrophy and do the exercise seated with back support. I hope everyone caught the scorn I tried to pour onto the latter option.

As I re-read your previous post, I'd suspect it's simply a weakness that needs to be brought up.

With front squats, practice helps a lot. Start light and work up. You could even do some practice with overhead squats. Start with a broom-handle and then an empty bar and work up as able. Your body will try to dump you on your rump the first few attempts.

Nearly every time I've had a SEVERE "crick" in my neck...it has been from doing overheads. Always make sure to do some neck stretching, rotations, etc...and put some cream on it if it hurts or feels stiff.

I'd do the following:
1) Stretch if possible (very light, to the point of feeling ANY pain)
2) Keep a warm cream on it
3) Stretch your shoulders, triceps, pecs, and all of your erectors, as well as hams several times a day
4) Go see a massage therapist
5) Go see a chiropractor
6) Don't be afraid to use some nsaids for 2-3 days
