racism is far from being a myth. each generation will reshape and express it in an evolved fashion. it is part of human nature to be discriminatory and form social groups to differentiate themselves from those not in the group. we do this to enhance and better define ourselves and our identities. it is almost an existential need.
most of us assume that racism constitutes whites acting racist towards the blacks and non whites. this is an overwhelmingly oversimplified understanding of the phenomenon. isn't it ironic that racism is not fashionable anymore? one cannot declare their racist intentions regardless of living in a country where they are free to express their opinion... it is so because we are being discriminatory towards the so called "racists". The so called open minded and pious people of the world that boast about their black friends and would not hear a word of racial criticism are infact racist themselves. imo, you cannot separate yourself from being human nomatter how hard you try.
perhaps there is atleast some validity in the fact that physical features are not the basis of discrimination anymore and this has nothing to do with obama winning the presidential race. yet, everyday we find a million different ways to differentiate ourselves from the "others" and subsequently discriminate.
