Glad you finally worked-around to the point I wanted to make!
Discrimination and racism are two different things. Discrimination is simply responding differently to to differing situations. Racism is a belief that one race is superior than the other.
You and I discriminate all day, every day.
When I go to Wal-Mart, if I see one really heavy, sluggish-looking check-out cashier and one skinny, more energetic-looking one, I'll pick the skinnier one. I just discriminated.
When I go to a clothes store, I'll find the well turned-out salesperson -- the one who dresses like I'd want to dress (well, either that or a gay guy, those guys know how to dress). And alas, I have discriminated yet again.
If I go to McDonalds and one cashier (who's going to be handling my food) looks clean and well-groomed, and the other looks shaggy and a little disheveled, I'll pick the better-groomed one. And yet again, I have discriminated.
So if the goal is to end all forms of discrimination, that's never, ever, ever going to happen. No educational system, no government program, no repairations, not nothing is ever going to fix that.
As far as racism goes, sure they'll always be a fringe movement who thinks one race is superior to another. And there will always be a group that's certain they were abducted by aliens and received an anal probe as well. I even heard a guy on the radio today who believes in the "hollow Earth" where supposedly aliens live along with animals we believe to be long-extinct.
So bottom line? I agree with the original premise of the post bino made. Racism is largely a myth, relegated to the fringes of society. You'll be able to point toward discriminatory behaviors from time-to-time, but racial bias is now no stronger than biases toward age, gender, body composition, education level, income or the number of teeth in someone's head.
I said this before on another post: If you want to go on a campaign to help a group that's being discriminated against, go help unattractive, overweight females. That's got to be the most discriminated-against group on the planet, bar none.
